"The Voice," one of television’s most beloved singing competition shows, wrapped up its latest season with emotion, surprise and debate. To up the scales even more, each judge had a contestant from their respective teams competing in the finale. Danny Joseph from Reba McEntire's team, Jeremy Beloate from Snoop Dogg's team, Sofronio Vasquez and Shye from Michael Bublé's team, and Sydney Sterlace from Gwen Stefani's team all competed for one of the biggest prizes on television. Ultimately, Vasquez from team Bublé walked away with the coveted prize.
The crowning of Vasquez from the Philippines as the season's champion sent ripples through the show’s fanbase and ignited a firestorm of opinions on social media. The 32-year-old's journey on the show impressed both the judges and the audience, and his victory was just as touching, with many rushing to offer their congratulations on social media.
Vasquez’s performances on the night were mindblowing, from his coach and artist duet of the Jackson 5 classic, “Who’s Lovin’ You” with Michael Bublé to his spellbinding rendition of “A Million Dreams” from the musical “The Greatest Showman.” Commenting on his victory, Vasquez humbly said:
“I can’t wait to just call my mom and tell her that we won The Voice and I can’t wait to just be celebrating the opportunity.”
He called this the “biggest gift” in his life, with Bublé expressing pride in how far Vasquez had come and how he deserved the win.
However, as with all competitions, there can never be a unanimous agreement on the winner, and with four other contestants, the race was tight and the stakes even higher. While many viewers celebrated the winner’s journey to victory, others questioned whether the title went to the right contestant. Those who had Vasquez as their favorite lauded him with praise on social media, with one gushing:
"I am so happy that you won. I knew you were gonna win for the first time I heard your voice congratulations..I am so happy for you !!!"
Another chimed in to say that Vasquez deserved to win the contest because of his talent.
“Thank you Lord for the talent that you gave to Sofronio! Thanks America for putting a deserving winner!!!” they praised.
Still, many viewers of the show felt that the win wasn’t deserved and that there were other, better contestants, and they did not hesitate to express their displeasure. One user shared their disappointment, writing:
"Pretty disappointing season just my opinion. Didn't really need to watch the finale the winner was plastered all over for the last week. Alot of the really good singers were let go before the live shows began."
The disgruntlement of one user was so great that they declared:
"I will never ever watch the Voice again."
This opinion was echoed by another netizen who had criticism for the choice, commenting:
"Wrong choice and bad choice. He won't be a big stage performer."
However, congratulations go out to Vasquez for winning and making history as the first winner from the Philippines!
