Entertainment mogul Simon Cowell is known for being one of the harshest and most critical judges on talent competition reality shows. He’s a record executive, television personality and entrepreneur and has also used his platform for the betterment of others, engaging in philanthropic activities over the years. “The X Factor,” “Britain’s Got Talent,” “America’s Got Talent,” and “American Idol” are some of the most popular shows on Cowell’s resume.

Cowell had always been surrounded by musical influences growing up, so it was no surprise when he entered the entertainment industry with a strong focus on the music business. He helped launch the careers of many musical artists and bands, many of which got their big break on his competition shows. The music mogul has played a hand in the business side of his own entertainment company, Syco Entertainment, and has also worked on the production side of many musical releases.

However, reports that Cowell has been slowly easing into retirement have emerged. While he is not busy in front of the camera as a talent reality show judge, Cowell has spent most of his time with his family, composed of his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, and their adorable son Eric, who live together in their family home in Malibu, California and also their $57 million mansion on Holland Park, London. Reportedly, Cowell “totally changed his direction” as he tries to live a rather private life, a stark contrast to how his every move has been closely inspected and reported by the press.

Unbeknownst to many, Cowell has a fiancee and two children. Cowell’s relationship with Silverman started off with controversy as both of them were in other relationships and began an on-again, off-again affair with one another, per Good Housekeeping.

They came clean about this in 2013 when the American socialite became pregnant with Cowell’s child. The news became a massive scandal as Silverman was still technically married at the time, but her then-husband filed for divorce shortly after.

Apart from the almost-regular backlash he gets from fans of every talent competition he judges at, Cowell has been busy tending to his own health. He claimed a health scare he had back in 2017 inspired him to change his lifestyle. According to The Sun, the music mogul was rushed to the hospital after fainting on the stairs in his home while getting a glass of milk during an insomnia spell. He was diagnosed with low blood pressure and lost the first two days of live filming for “X Factor UK” as a result of the fall.

Cowell blamed his fatty eating habits and unhealthy sleeping patterns for the incident, and since then, he has started changing for the better. Cowell changed his habits, and since the switch, he has lost weight and reportedly improved his well-being. Moreover, the celebrity judge believes he can keep up with his son’s antics.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on her show, Cowell talked about how he was pushed to make a healthy change in his life. He had seen a doctor who told instructed him to remove red meat, gluten, sugar, and dairy from his diet. Since making the diet change, Cowell can keep up with his son’s energy levels.

On a July 2023 report, it seemed like Cowell is jumping toward the biggest change of his life – retirement.

The Daily Mail suggested that Cowell, who was once a headliner at tabloids, is now “edging towards retiring from showbiz.” The outlet also revealed that Cowell seemed to have handed down the reins of Syco Entertainment to his fiance, Silverman, who has been running it for quite a while already with “very little input from him.”

Reportedly, the 63-year-old manager “rarely sees his famous friends,” except for Amanda Holden. Aside from “Britain’s Got Talent,” Cowell has no other television commitments. In fact, the outlet exclusively revealed that Cowell “wants to spend more time with his nine-year-old son Eric” who he “totally dotes on.”

The change of heart was prompted by another worrying health scare Cowell had in 2020 – he fell off an e-bike and broke his back. He eventually underwent six hours of surgery which he survived.

“It’s like Simon has totally changed his direction of travel. He was once so keen to be in the papers that he could barely go for a walk without it being on the front of the tabloids. Now he has slunk off into obscurity – he won’t even tell anyone where he lives,” the insider revealed.

The source also noted that before, Cowell “wanted to be talked about and written about,” but now he suddenly “doesn’t want to be in the limelight anymore.”

“The harem of women has gone, as has Louis Walsh. Now it’s just Amanda. He will sometimes see others, such as Alan Carr and Alesha Dixon, through her. Nobody can work out what has happened here – he went from being so in need of fame to hating it,” the source furthered.

Over his Instagram, Cowell rarely posts photos of himself or any personal happenings in his life. His feed was either sponsored content or “Got Talent” clips.
