Simon Cowell And Lauren Silverman's Romance Got Off To A Controversial Start

When news that Simon Cowell was to become a father came to the forefront in 2013, fans and the media alike went into a frenzy. How? Who? What? –– Cowell wasn't even the most 'fatherly' of figures and had been open about his lack of interest in a committed, long-term relationship. But it wasn't just news of his unborn child that had the world baffled – it was the nature of his relationship with the child's mother, Lauren Silverman, that made the whole story all the more conspicuous. When tabloid headlines littered both the internet and magazines with the news of her pregnancy, she was still married to Andrew Silverman – a close friend of Cowell's at the time.

According to US Weekly, Cowell first met Silverman and her now-ex-husband on holiday at Barbados' Sandy Lane resort in 2004, and the three soon sparked a friendship that would last long after their vacation ended. As the years went by, Cowell would enter – and then soon exit – many relationships, even briefly becoming engaged to Mezhgan Hussainy, a makeup artist from American Idol between 2010-2011, according to the Sun. But while it looked like the no-nonsense talent judge had it all in life, like money, power, and beautiful women, he later admitted that he wasn't happy.

"You are always looking for the next high from the show and then actually if you haven't got anyone to share it with per se, or if you haven't got a family around you, you can go a bit nuts," Cowell confessed to the Mirror in 2014.

Meanwhile, in the concrete jungle of New York City, Lauren Silverman had been struggling with her own unfulfillment. Speaking to US Weekly, her mother, Carole Saland, revealed that her daughter was not happy with Andrew Silverman at the time. "The marriage was not made in heaven," Saland said.

Cowell and Silverman began an on-again, off-again secret affair, which was forced into the spotlight in 2013 when the American socialite became pregnant with Cowell's child. The news became a massive scandal as Silverman was still technically married to her ex-husband at the time. Soon after the story became public, Andrew Silverman filed for an 'at-fault' divorce, citing his ex-wife's adultery with Cowell – to whom he referred to by name in the divorce documents, according to the Daily Mail – as the sole reason.

Speaking to the Mirror that same year, Cowell admitted that he was not proud of how his relationship with Silverman began, especially considering the hurt that was caused as a result. "I regret that part," Cowell admitted.

"But then of course you have a baby and you look at the baby and you kinda go 'this is what happened from it,'" he added.

Amid all the commotion and high profile drama, Silverman gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Eric, On February 14, 2014. And just like that, Britain's most notorious playboy became a committed family man.

"My life has changed, but I am probably more focused on what I am doing now than I was a year ago," Cowell said at the time. "Maybe because it puts things in perspective having two people in my life who I am responsible for."

The music mogul also says that with Silverman, he has finally found his life partner.

"The great thing about Lauren is she loves what I do, so she sits in if I am watching Britain's Got Talent for example, and she has got a good opinion," Cowell gushed. "And I seem to have got my mojo back again."

Speaking of his new life, Cowell says he always fancied himself a lone stud and had gotten used to living alone over the years, but has now warmed up to having people around him. "Now the house is full of people, it has become a home rather than a house," he said. As a family man, the 60-year-old now appreciates spending time with his partner and son and makes sure he switched off from work properly to give them his undivided attention. He even opts for switching off his phone outside working hours.

When it comes to their relationship, Silverman told Hello magazine in 2015 that the two are a great match.

"I think Simon has changed me. He makes me laugh all the time. I can't get angry with him because when I'm trying to be cross he just makes me laugh," Silverman gushed. "I feel I learn so much from him, which is incredibly inspiring. He's very talented."
