There are lots of things to consider when you adopt a dog: personality, energy level, grooming requirements, and training difficulty to name a few. But most people who have adopted will tell you that when you walk through the concrete halls of an animal shelter and lock eyes with a certain pooch, you'll just know.

One woman felt that exact pull when she first laid eyes on an adorable white-and-brown-speckled dog, according to The Dodo. The woman learned that the dog came from an abusive background, so she wasn't expecting it to warm up straight away.
However, it didn't take long for the dog to recognize the love of its new family. As soon as they got in the car to go home, the dog extended its paw to thank its new owner in the sweetest way.
