Shelter Dog Made Online Star For Escaping Her Kennel Finds Permanent Home

Squeaky, a former shelter dog, became an internet star in 2013 when a video showing her escaping the kennel at the Great Plains SPCA in Kansas City, Missouri made its rounds. About three months later, she found her forever home.
Living in a shelter is better than being a stray on the street. Dogs living in a shelter, however, would likely wish to roam free. That plan becomes secondary to wanting a forever home.
One canine's desire for freedom led to multiple kennel escapes. The dog won't need to escape anymore, though. The feisty pup now has a forever home.

Squeaky became somewhat of a pet celebrity, thanks to a video. The Kansas City SPCA staff kept finding the dog outside its kennel in the morning, and no one could figure out how she was getting loose. Video cameras ended up telling the tale, as the staff secretly recorded Squeaky's endeavors.
The video revealed how Squeaky escaped the kennel. She pulled on the handle. Dog paws aren't great for gripping, and most dogs would likely push on the door instead of pulling on any handles. Squeaky turned out to be a bright dog — and a coordinated one, too. She was able to grab onto the handle and pull the door open. There's no mystery or magic about how the dog got out. The charming video tells the tale.

The video also comes off as somewhat sad. You can hear other dogs crying and barking in the background. And it seems clear that Squeaky doesn't like being inside the kennel, as she isn't too thrilled about confinement.
These pets all need a home, but matching them with the right family isn't always easy. Squeaky did get a boost from the video. The video served as an advertisement to help draw in families to adopt the fun-loving dog.
Don't think the reaction was immediate, though. Even though the video proved wildly popular, offers to adopt Squeaky did not come forward. Several months passed before any serious interest in adopting the dog occurred. The lack of interest surprised many, considering how friendly and lovable Squeaky appeared in the video.
Perhaps it doesn't matter how long it takes to find a forever home, as long as the pet finally gets a home. Squeaky found a home and, amazingly, the adoption had nothing to do with the viral video.
A woman named Christen hosted a foreign-exchange student who noted she never owned a dog. According to dogspirit.co, Christen thought it would be the right time to adopt a dog, as the student could spend some time with a dog at home while using the canine as a running partner.
Christen would also benefit by becoming the owner of a loving dog that would stick by her side, as seen in a video by DogHeirs. They didn't intend to go to Squeaky's kennel, but that's where they ended up. Both were smitten by Squeaky and gave the dog a new home.
