Annemarie Stein is tired of hearing that many people do not take the job as a 24 hour mother seriously. So she published a made up conversation between her spouse and his psychiatrist. The woman's role in the family is described in this conversation, as the woman devotes her entire life exclusively to it. Does she get any credit for that?
istockphoto.com/Tero VesalainenPsychiatrist: What is your job, Mr. Stein?
Mr. Stein: I work in the accounting department of a large company.
Psychiatrist: What is your wife's job?
Mr Stein: She's a housewife and doesn't work.
Psychiatrist: Who makes sure that the family gets breakfast?
Mr Stein: My wife makes breakfast for the whole family because she doesn't work.
Psychiatrist: When does your wife's alarm go off every morning?
Mr. Stein: Because she has to organize the whole day, my wife generally gets up very early. She makes sure the children are cared for and dressed. At the same time she's also making lunch. She's also responsible for ensuring that the children brush their teeth and do their homework, as well as making sure that the children actually eat breakfast. Then she takes care of the baby and breast-feeds it or feeds it and changes the diapers.
Psychiatrists: Who takes your children to school?
Mr Stein: My wife takes the children to school because she doesn't work.
According to Mrs. Stein, this describes a usual morning of her everyday life. This happens every day all over the world for millions of mothers. However, this part of the conversation only covers the morning. What else does a mother's day have to offer?
istockphoto.com/SolStockPsychiatrist: What does your wife do after taking the children to school?
Mr Stein: She thinks about what she needs to do as she moves along. She thinks about how she can oragnize everything so that she doesn't have to take out the booster seats too often, for example when she drives to the bank or to the supermarket. Sometimes my wife forgets to do something. That's when it gets a bit more complicated, because then she has to do it with the baby in tow. Back at home she feeds the baby and checks the diaper. Then she lets the baby have a nap while she cleans up the kitchen. Of course, then she has to clean the house and do the laundry. She does all that because she doesn't work.
Psychiatrist: What do you as Mrs Stein's husband to when you get home in the evening?
Mr Stein: I relax because I'm tired from working all day.
Psychiatrist: What does your wife do, while you take a breather after work?
Mr Stein: My wife takes care of dinner and does the dishes. Then she cleans up everything and checks the children's homework. She makes sure they brush their teeth and puts them to bed. The baby needs another diaper change. During the night, my wife often gets up to feed the baby and maybe change the diaper again. We, the rest of the family I mean, have a full night's sleep. But my wife doesn't have to work the next day.
Quite a lot of people can't see what a 24-hours on the job mom has to do every day. Being a mother means a lot of work. What would happen if a mother wouldn't be able to do her job?
Housewifes get no diploma but their role is crucial for the whole family. That's why you should appreciate what your women do for you, as they have to make many sacrifices. Mothers are more:
• 24 hour job
• Woman
• Daughter
• Mother
• Alarm
• Housecleaner
• Chef
• Boss
• Babysitter
• Barwoman
• Nurse
• Safety personal
• Repairman
• Psychiatrist
• Advice giver
Most of the time they get no vacations and can never be sick, they never have a single day off and work every day and night. Mothers are always on duty and yet never get pay or money for it. Despite this, they still have to listen to the question what they're doing all day.
istockphoto.com/PeopleImagesThis is why Mrs Stein wants ro remind everybody: Every woman who cares for her loved ones is like salt. Her presence won't get noticed until she's not there anymore because then suddenly everything tastes like nothing. A full-time mother is a lot more than just a housewife. Of course, this is already clear to everybody who has thought about it before.
