For a relationship to endure over 15,000 years, the bond between man and dog must be pretty special. It's not hard to see that when it comes to the canine-homosapien duo, we just can't seem to get enough of each other!

We all know someone who is head over heels for their dog but, did you know our dogs are just as crazy about us as we are about them? New scientific evidence from Emory University shows that just the scent of their human companions sets off the reward center of their brain. At some point you've probably seen a dog respond to your emotions. They are able to read our facial expressions noticing when we're sad, happy or angry. This explains doggy guilt when they're being scolded or their concern when they see us crying.

Many animals, including cats and horses, will run away from humans when they're scared but, dogs have the opposite reflex. They run to us like a toddler behind his mother's legs! Their love for us runs so deep that even the fight-or-flight response within the most primitive part of the brain is wired to see us as a safe place to run to.

Now that is an amazing bond!

With this information available its no wonder dogs have been the most loyal companions to humanity, even accompanying soldiers and veterans, providing support and assistance to those with disabilities, and commonly working as therapy dogs. Its not by chance that they are so skilled at providing us with excellent care and assisting our needs.

It seems they are perfect for the job and now Gregory Berns, lead researcher of this study, has proven that they even prefer this lifestyle of being right by our side.

If at this point if you're feeling your heart well up with a renewed love and respect for your dog, remember that he's just as happy to be by you as your are to be by him. Don't forget to spread the word so that everybody will know just how devoted our dogs are to us and give them the thanks they deserve.
