While Sandra Bullock is one of Hollywood’s most well-known and well-respected actresses of the 21st century, her love life hasn’t always been as successful. In fact, Bullock’s ex-husband, Jesse James, went on record to say that he cheated on his ex-wife, whom he was married to between 2005 and 2010.
Citing an anonymous source, an exclusive 2010 report from RadarOnline.com also found that James allegedly spent several hundred thousand dollars on mistresses while he was married to Bullock. And more recently, James admitted on record that he had cheated on Bullock in a 2017 interview with Daily Mail. The reality TV star and entrepreneur also issued a public apology in a statement to People Magazine in 2010, shortly after women came forward to say that they had been in a relationship with James during his marriage to Bullock.
The “Bird Box” star first met James in 2003 when she took her godson, a fan of James’ reality TV show “Monster Garage,” to tour the garage where James built many of his custom motorcycles, according to ABC News. Just two years after that fateful encounter, Bullock, 41, and James, 53, got married in Santa Barbara, California. At the time, it was James’ third marriage and Bullock’s first, though she had been engaged to actor Tate Donovan in the 1990s.
It wasn’t until 2010 that cracks started to emerge in Bullock and James' relationship — at least from the public’s perspective. The same year that Bullock won an Oscar for her role in “The Blind Side,” tabloids reported on a series of stories that claimed James was cheating on his wife.
After the reports came out, James issued a public apology wherein he addressed claims of infidelity.
“The vast majority of the allegations reported are untrue and unfounded. Beyond that, I will not dignify these private matters with any further public comment,” James began his March 2010 statement.
“There is only one person to blame for this whole situation, and that is me. It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way.
“This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them. I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them. I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”
Seven years later, James told reporters at the Daily Mail that he had cheated on his wife. This seems to be a pattern, as celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D took to Facebook to tell the public that James had cheated on her with 19 women, according to an ABC News report.
“Yeah, I did cheat on my wife, yeah, I stood up and took accountability for it and apologized. And that's end of story. Everything else was just…” James told the Daily Mail of his relationship with Bullock.
“In general, both women and men cheat. It's part of life,” he added.
Although it’s difficult to independently verify the claim, RadarOnline.com reported in 2010 that, “Jesse James spent several hundred thousand dollars on his various mistresses while cheating on Sandra Bullock for the past several years.” The New York Post also picked up the story.

Regardless of whether the claims of James’ expenditures are true or not, Bullock seems to have moved on from that chapter of her life. Just months after her April 2010 divorce, Bullock even told People that she and James had “both moved on with our lives and only want the best for each other.”
And in a more recent 2020 conversation between Bullock and Jennifer Anniston for Interview Magazine, there was no mention of Jesse James, though the 57-year-old actress did mention her children — a rare glimpse into Bullock’s home life.
“I gave (my kids) the places where they can go to college because that’s where mommy feels comfortable living. I said, ‘You can go to these three colleges because I’m going to buy an apartment down the street,’” Bullock told Anniston.
Since her divorce from James, Bullock has also been busy with her career. One of her most notable films from the past decade is “Bird Box,” a post-apocalyptic film put out by Netflix. While the film received mixed reviews, many critics commended Bullock for her performance as Malorie Hayes, the film’s main character.
“More than anything, this is a display of what movie stars can do. Bullock's time bomb performance, always tamping down the scream she clearly wants to let out, is riveting. The film she gifts it to is not much to see,” Olly Richards wrote in his review for NME.
As for Jesse James, the reality TV star is coming out of his fourth marriage, after American drag racer Alexis DeJoria divorced him in 2020 after seven years.
