On Monday, Aug. 8, 2023, the family of Sandra Bullock’s longtime partner Bryan Randall released a statement to People announcing his death. In the statement, Randall’s family said:
“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS. Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.”
The family also expressed gratitude to the doctors who worked tirelessly with them while Randall was ill and thanked the nurses who cared for him. The statement concluded:
“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan.”
Randall’s family understood that there would be an outpouring of emotions in the aftermath of his demise. Hence, they pleaded that friends and well-wishers should not send flowers but donate to the Massachusetts General Hospital and the ALS Association.
Besides the outpouring of emotions and donations, Randall’s death also brought more attention to his relationship with Bullock. Although the pair did well to keep their family, relationship, and his illness away from the public, the actress had spoken about him several times and always had glowing things to say about him.
From all of Bullock’s words about Randall, it was obvious that they loved and were committed to each other. However, she had no intention of marrying him and explained her reason during a December 2021 appearance on Facebook Watch’s “Red Table Talk.” Get more details below about Bullock and Randall’s relationship and why she didn’t want a marriage with him.
Sandra Bullock has starred in some of Hollywood’s biggest movies. Some of the biggest films she has featured in include “A Time to Kill,” “Miss Congeniality,” “The Proposal,” “The Blind Side,” “Gravity” and “Bird Box.” Thanks to her acting prowess, Bullock has been nominated for several awards and has a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award to her name.
Away from movies, Bullock has also been in several relationships. She and actor Tate Donovan were once engaged but never tied the knot, and their relationship lasted only three years. Bullock also dated NFL star Troy Aikman and Hollywood actors Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling. On July 16, 2005, she tied the knot with Jesse James, host of “Monster Garage.”
However, the couple’s marriage was filled with several challenges and cheating allegations against James. On April 23, 2010, the actress filed for divorce from James, citing a conflict of personalities as her reason. While married to James, Bullock began plans to adopt a son. Following their divorce, she continued the adoption process as a single parent. In December 2015, she adopted a daughter, Laila, making her a mom of two.
After separating from James, it took Bullock five years to get into another serious relationship. She and photographer Bryan Randall reportedly started dating in the summer of 2015 after he photographed her son, Louis, for his graduation.
In 2018, rumors started making the rounds that Bullock and Randall were secretly married. However, the actress’s representative denied the allegations in a chat with People, as they stated, “They are not married.”
Despite Bullock and Randall not getting married, they remained devoted to each other and their kids. Like Bullock, Randall was a father to an adult daughter, Skylar, from a previous relationship. Bullock and her partner raised their kids together, and she adored him.

During a December 2021 interview with Jada Pinkett Smith on “Red Table Talk,” Bullock opened up about her relationship with Randall. She gushed about him:
“I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children — three children, his older daughter. It’s the best thing ever.”
Bullock also revealed that Randall was “a saint” after she told him about her plans to adopt Laila despite not being with him for long. She recalled:
“I said, ‘Remember that NDA you signed when you photographed my son?’ I said, ‘You know, that still holds. He said, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘I’m bringing a child home when I come back from Toronto.’”
Bullock revealed that Randall was “so happy” about the development, “but he was scared.” She added:
“I’m a bulldozer. My life was already on the track, and here’s this beautiful human being who doesn’t want anything to do with my life but the right human being to be there.”
The “Bird Box” actress also described Randall as “very Christian” and a good role model for their kids. She explained:
“I don’t always agree with him and he doesn’t always agree with me. But if they can take away from that and that is where they feel drawn to, he’s the exact right parent to be in this position.”
Bullock also expressed delight that the universe made her wait to start a family with the right person after her divorce from James. However, despite being so much in love with Randall, she said she had no plans of getting married to him as she wanted to “think about the children first.” She also said:

I don’t need to be told to be ever-present in the hardest of times. I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.”
