After secretly battling a debilitating disease for years, Sandra Bullock's long-time partner and love of her life, Bryan Randall, passed in August 2023. According to a statement from his family, Randall's health condition had been kept private as per his request.

Bullock has been a working actress in the entertainment industry since the late 1980s and has also worked as a producer during her impressive and long-lasting career. She is an eclectic actress and doesn't fit into just one genre since her talents are unique and diverse. From suspenseful thrillers to romantic comedies, Bullock has starred in a wide variety of films and television shows. Some of her most notable films include "Miss Congeniality," "The Lake House" and "Bird Box."

Although she had plenty of on-screen partners, Bullock remained in love with Randall for many years. Bullock's relationship with former model Randall was quite the love story, as the actress has given insight into their romance in the last couple of years. After a messy divorce with Jesse James that ended in 2010, Bullock met Randall when she hired him to take photos of Louis' 5th birthday back in 2015. Their relationship blossomed, and he became her boyfriend.

Aside from being a great father figure to her kids, Randall also proved to be a very loving and protective partner as he fended off the paparazzi and detractors of her wife as they put her in uncomfortable situations. Bullock has spoken fondly of Randall and their relationship on multiple occasions, as their partnership meant so much more even though they're not legally married.

In a statement given to People Magazine from Randall's family, it was revealed that he passed away on Aug. 5, 2023, after a long battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) after a three-year battle with the disease.

"Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request," the statement read. "We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours."

Randall's family has since asked for privacy to grieve and come to terms with the impossible task of saying goodbye to him.

According to the National Health Institute, ALS is a rare neurological disease that affects motor neurons. As these neurons degenerate and die, they fail to transmit messages to the muscles, which causes them to weaken, start to twitch and waste away. To date, the illness has no cure and no effective treatment to reverse its progression.

According to the ALS Association, the average life expectancy of a person living with ALS is about five years from the diagnosis, while some people can live with the disease for over five years.

Randall is survived by Bullock, his longtime partner of eight years, and her son Louis, 13, and Laila, 10, who have treated him as a father figure for years. He also has a child from a previous relationship. As of the time of writing, Bullock has not yet released a statement on her partner's saddening death.

According to People Magazine, Randall's family asked for donations to be made to the ALS Association and the Massachusetts General Hospital in lieu of flowers.

Bullock has not always had the best of luck when it comes to romance. After dating some of Hollywood’s best-known heartthrobs, from Tate Donovan to Ryan Gosling, she married motorcycle customizer Jesse James in 2005. It turned out to be a terrible choice for Bullock since it came out that James cheated on her multiple times. She divorced him five years later while they were in the middle of adopting her son, Louis.

But then came 2015, which was a big year for her as she adopted her second child Laila. That same year, she met the gorgeous model-turned-photographer Randall, whom she hired to take snaps at Louis’ 5th birthday. Their relationship blossomed and they soon fell in love.

Randall also became a wonderful boyfriend and father figure to Bullock’s two kids, something she once said boiled down to him being “super kind.”

“For the kids he’s sort of number one and I’m number two,” Bullock added. “But I get it because he’s more fun and has better treats.”

During an appearance on "Red Table Talk," the actress also gushed about her relationship with Randall and the family they had built together. She said:

"I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children — three children, his older daughter. It's the best thing ever. I don't wanna say do it like I do it, but I don't need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother."

Speaking more about Randall, Bullock had this to say about her partner: "I don't need to be told to be ever present in the hardest of times. I don't need to be told to weather a storm with a good man."

In the Red Table Talk interview, Bullock had nothing but good things to say about Randall. The love, care and appreciation she had for her beloved partner was evident not only in her words, but her eyes and body language. She further gushed about Randall being the "right human being" to build a life with and said:

"He's the example that I would want my children to have. I have a partner who's very Christian and there's two very different ways of looking at things. I don't always agree with him, and he doesn't always agree with me. But he is an example even when I don't agree with him, that I go, if they can take away from that and if that is where they feel drawn to then he is the exact right parent to be in this position."

She added Randall also had the uncanny ability to balance her out when things got tough. “I'm stubborn, but sometimes I need to sit back and listen and go: 'You're saying it differently but we mean exactly the same thing.' It's hard to co-parent because I just want to do it myself,” she said.

In the interview, co-host Willow Smith described Bullock as a "really strong woman." Bullock responded:

"I am. And sometimes I wish it wasn't so... sometimes I just wish I could let myself just fall apart, but it's not my time yet. I'll fall apart when it's my time. I have a spirit that just says, even when things were bad, I'm like, 'It's gonna get better.' I'm lucky."
