Salma Hayek, 56, Dons 'Piece Of Art' Dress Proving Why She's The Fashion Icon She Is Today

Salma Hayek is one of the most successful and gorgeous actresses on the planet, but Hayek led a rather humble life in her native Mexico before she became famous. Having worked on her craft since the age of 18, Hayek's passion for acting eventually propelled her into the stratosphere.

Although she's at the top, she still finds time to advocate for causes that she's passionate about. She's most known for her work in combatting domestic violence against women, as well as her advocacy for immigrants and charity work in helping disadvantaged children in Mexico. 

While Hayek's known to be one of the most beautiful actresses working in Hollywood, she's now in her 50s and looks rather different than in her younger years, but she's still every bit as gorgeous. These days the 56-year-old actress is still in incredible shape.

Known for her famous appearance in the 1996 movie "From Dusk Till Dawn," many fans love Hayek for the scene in which she danced with an albino Burmese python on her shoulders while wearing a brown bikini that left little to the imagination.

Born on Sept. 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, Hayek once described her childhood as being pretty idyllic. Raised by her mother, Diana, who was an opera singer, and her father, Sami, an oil company executive, she also had a brother named Sami.

From the start, Hayek knew that acting was what she was destined to do, so she stuck with her decision. Well, it didn't take long for the decision to pay off — after getting her first part playing Jasmine in a theater production of "Aladdin" for kids, Hayek went on to bigger things, landing her first TV gig in 1988 on "Nuevo Amanecer." The following year she got the titular role in "Teresa," a telenovela that catapulted her to fame at the tender age of 22, making her one of Mexico's biggest soap opera stars.    

Now, Hayek is one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood and one of the most prominent Latina actresses of this generation. Like many celebrities, Hayek was well-loved by her fans and the fashion industry, which is why when she was starting in the '90s, a lot of brands were enamored by her alluring beauty and innate capability to wear anything fabulously. 

In a video for Vogue Magazine, Hayek took a trip down memory lane and looked back on her own fashion herstory. 

“In the beginning of my career, I struggled getting clothes, and I couldn’t afford it. The other girls were getting people to lend them clothes but really, nobody thought a Mexican was going to stick around so why give them a dress? But things have changed since,” she shared. 

Described by the publication as an “unsung fashion trailblazer,” Hayek has been very grateful for the designers who have continued to work with her until today.

One of the most notable pieces that Hayek wore in her career was a simple black dress at the 1998 MTV Music Video Awards. Despite the simplicity of her outfit, Hayek made heads turn with her out-of-the-ordinary decision to dazzle herself with butterfly stickers, opting out of the traditional choice of wearing jewelry. 

But out of the many dresses she has worn on the hundreds of red carpets she has attended, her 2018 BAFTA dress by the Italian fashion house Gucci stands out to the actress as one of the best looks she has worn to date. 

“I love this dress, I love this dress,” Hayek lovingly told Vogue Magazine. “It is so nice that I have access to the best brands in the world. It is so nice to have those fashion angels at my disposal who take care of me and look after me.” 

Hayek stunned the paparazzi on the red carpet with her long black bejeweled dress from Gucci, which also came from the mind of the house’s creative director Alessandro Michele. 

In 2015, Michele was appointed by Gucci as its creative director after working for the company since 2005. He drove the luxury fashion house’s return to so-called Geek Chic and maximalist designs. 

Continuing Gucci’s love for Hayek, Michele was the one to be thanked for the actress’ head-turning gown during the 2022 Gucci LACMA Art + Film Gala. Hayek, in a series of photos, seemed to be confidently beautiful in showing her bosom in the bejeweled sage and beige dress from Gucci.  

“Thank you @alessandro_michele for my beautiful dress and gloves. A very appropriate piece of art for the Gucci LACMA Art + Film Gala!” Hayek said in a thank you post on her Instagram.
