Actress Riley Keough was born in the spotlight, and her family is surrounded by fame and fortune. As the granddaughter of legendary singer Elvis Presley, Riley has always had big shoes to fill in the entertainment industry. With her granddad, mother and father having made inroads in the music industry, one would have thought Riley would follow the same road. However, she instead pursued other avenues in the entertainment business and has since found success along the way.
Born on May 29, 1989, in Santa Monica, California, Riley’s life took a tumultuous turn at 6 when her parents divorced after a short-lived marriage. Fortunately, they managed to remain cordial as they co-parented their children. While she admitted her life with her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, was comfortable, she also appreciated the less luxurious lifestyle of her musician father, Danny Keough.
By 15, she was sashaying down the catwalks for top fashion houses before steadily building a name in acting for herself with well-received turns in films such as “The Runaways,” “Magic Mike,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” “Logan Lucky” and “Zola.” Despite being lauded for her natural onscreen charm, Riley admitted she was initially plagued by the fear of being seen as a “nepo baby,” which was subsequently masked as she threaded the independent scene with films and other underground work.
Following Lisa Marie’s death, Riley experienced an opportunity she has since referred to as “cosmic,” as she was announced to play Daisy Jones in the Amazon Prime series adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling book “Daisy Jones & The Six.” Her performance on the show was lauded for being outstanding, proving that her family's talented genes live on through her.
Playing the titular character on “Daisy Jones & The Six,” Riley jokingly admitted that she had to “lie” to get the role she has now embraced and celebrated.
“I think I blacked out on that meeting. I don’t really remember what happened," Riley confessed. "And then I auditioned like everybody else and lied to them and told them l could sing.”
Riley ultimately landed the role and revealed that she fell in love with the book just like everyone else did. Riley plays the titular role of Daisy Jones. The story of “Daisy Jones & The Six” was primarily inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s story and its eventual breakup. Lindsey Buckingham, one of the former members of the band, even alluded to conversations about reviving Fleetwood Mac following the meteoric rise of “Daisy Jones & The Six” in popular media.
In the series, Riley’s character Daisy Jones suffers from substance abuse. She revealed to Porter Magazine that she wanted the portrayal to be “thoughtful and appropriate” because she had experienced such issues in her own family.
“I wanted the moments in which you see Daisy’s addiction to not feel glamorous; to make sure that those moments had weight to them; that we’re seeing the humanity behind the closed doors of what people are perceiving to be glamour,” she added.
Apart from dealing with substance abuse with sensitivity and compassion, a considerable part of Riley’s storyline was about an absentee mother. Although she confidently said that she had not experienced that personally, she claimed to have seen the dynamic with a few people in her life, which she described as “totally heartbreaking.”
“Some people are lucky to have mothers that are very nurturing and loving, and some people aren’t. That is a place of great wound when either parent isn’t showing up in the way that the child wants them to,” she explained to Vanity Fair.

Since the mini-series was released, it has been a monumental success, with many lauding Riley for her incredible performance and vocal chops, which many said she inherited from her mother, Lisa Marie, and grandfather, Elvis.
Riley lived under immense pressure from the spotlight growing up, as she had many Hollywood role models to look up to. At 13 years old, she had already called Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage her stepfathers following her mother's various marriages.
“I grew up with a family that was very much in the public eye, and my childhood was really intense in that way, especially in the ’90s and early 2000s,” she told Vanity Fair.
While Riley never pursued music like her mother and grandfather, she has related to Daisy Jones more than anyone would have thought and has perfected the role like any talented singer would.
Riley also proved she had the musical chops to pursue music one day should she choose when she performed at Paris’ Grand Palais for Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear show. Wearing a chic black jumpsuit with a flowing see-through cape, Riley nailed her rendition of the classic Prince song, “When Doves Cry.” She also gave audiences a show to remember by sitting on a swing that was then lifted over the models on the runway as her soulful voice rang through the stunning French venue.
“Riley carried herself & the legacy of Lisa Marie, Elvis & Graceland with so much grace & grounding the past 2 yrs,” one viewer commented, as another said, “Riley is Lisa Marie’s gift to the world. A beautiful girl with a beautiful poised presentation. Love her voice.”
“I didn’t know Riley even sang, but she can sing! The good singing genes continues to run in the Presley family," a user agreed, as another echoed similar sentiments, saying, “She carries on the Presley legacy in a way her mom and grandfather would be proud. 🌷”
