Richard Gere is an American actor and producer who began appearing in films in the 1970s. He is best known for playing the role of Edward Lewis in “Pretty Woman.” The actor played a rich playboy from New York who falls in love with a Hollywood prostitute portrayed by Julia Roberts. Gere was nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Actor for the role but sadly wouldn’t take home the award until 2003 when he won for “Chicago.”
Despite not being in the spotlight as much as he used to be, there is no doubt that he has left a major mark on Hollywood.
Along with the praise for his long list of critically acclaimed movies, the actor has always been an outspoken activist, speaking publicly about human rights violations in Tibet and boycotting the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He is also a recipient of the Medal of Gratitude, an honor bestowed upon him by the Albanian president in 2012 for his contributions in unmasking the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo in 1999.
Despite playing leading men in dramas throughout his long career, Gere has largely stayed out of drama in his personal life. He has never been arrested for drugs or drunk driving. Gere has shown himself to be an honest man who isn’t afraid to speak up when something important is happening.
His wife, Alejandra Silva, who is 33 years younger than Gere, says she isn't afraid of their age difference. Previously, Gere divorced his ex-wife Cindy Crawford due to the age difference, but his current wife has no qualms about it. Read on to know more about Gere and Silva's romance.

Silva is Gere's third wife. He married his first wife, Cindy Crawford, in 1991; at the time, he was 42 and she was 25. Their marriage only lasted a short time, and they divorced in 1995. He married his second wife, Carey Lowell, in 2002; at the time, he was 53 and she was 41. They had a son together. They separated after 11 years of marriage and finally divorced in 2016 after some rather heated court battles that are speculated to be mostly about money.
Cindy Crawford had previously commented on the reason for her break-up with Gere and openly acknowledged that it was because of their 17-year age gap. She said that when they first started dating she was only 22 and she was still trying to figure out who she was and what she wanted to be, continually changing and growing, while Gere was fully mature and had moved out of that stage of life. However, Silva made it clear that the age gap does not mean anything at all to her.
Silva and Gere met in 2014 at a film festival and started dating. They officially came out as a couple in 2015. After their marriage in 2018, Gere told The Guardian that he had always wanted a marriage like the one his parents had because they were happily married for 70 years.
Gere and Silva married in 2018 when Silva was 35 and Gere was 68. In February 2019, Gere and Silva welcomed baby Alexander, who is their first child together.

Then, just over a year later, the couple were reported to have had a second son together, whose name still isn't known, as the couple has been very private with regards to their children. He was born in April 2020.
Silva was in the process of divorcing her first husband when she became involved with Gere. Silva and Gere are happily enjoying their newfound love and appear to have met their soulmates.
Speaking about their connection, Silva previously said, "Our karma was attracted the moment we saw each other," adding, "I’m not ignoring our age difference and what it means to be with a Hollywood star, but when there’s such a strong karmic energy, the problems disappear."
Silva also told Hello! Magazine, "In this life it had to be like this. He has promised me at least 20 good years! I have to confess that he has much more energy than me; he's much more active. I find it hard to keep up with him. He's not human!"
Gere has similar sentiments about his wife. "I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be?" Gere told Hola! after he welcomed his second child.
"I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who is fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who is a great cook — and who makes the best salads in the world!"
It is safe to say that the couple continues to be madly in love and supports each other in everything they do! Love stories like this are rare in Hollywood, but Gere and Silva make it look easy.
