Richard Gere And Cindy Crawford, Early Years
After movies like American Gigolo, and An Officer and a Gentlemen, Richard met, who would soon become his wife, supermodel Cindy Crawford. Crawford was interviewed about how just "talking" lead to more and more dates. She would fall for the infectiously charming Gere and continue dating for some time.
Soon after that, the couple was inseparable and blazed the hottest Hollywood scenes with paparazzi in tow. They both donned the most immaculate designs from across the globe as they blazed red carpet after red carpet. From magazine covers to enjoying the best events in NYC and LA, this exposure raised wedding questions.
Stephane Cardinale/Corbis/Getty ImagesCome December 1991, the power couple chose to take a jet and fly to Las Vegas to wed, as shared by Daily Mail. Far from over-the-top, this small wedding only featured a few guests.
Cindy was known to refer to this as her “dream” wedding. Sadly, only four years later the two would divorce leaving many to wonder about the couple's age difference. Gere was 39 when he met a 22-year-old Cindy Crawford. Seven years after this short-lived marriage, Gere would be introduced to Homer's mother Carey Lowell.
Welcoming His New Baby Homer
During February 2000, Gere and Lowell would welcome their only child, Homer Gere. While Gere was reluctant to have children with Crawford, things were different when he met Carey. Carey, who was already with a child from a prior relationship, would never speak of any issue in regard to starting a family with Gere.
Stating it was “spontaneous” and “right” during a report to The Guardian in 2002, things seemed to be on the up and up.
Being raised primarily in NYC, Homer would be given the name Jigme in adherence to what Richard Gere lived by in regard to human rights. A Tibetan name, this would show the world that this would indeed become a special bond.
The Guardian asked Gere about ways that fatherhood could spark change within a man, and he responded stating how things do not affect you when you weigh them against things in reality.
In a sense, this was referring to how Richard felt that the cliches about parenthood were true. Homer was thrust into the limelight at an early age, as both of his parents were famous celebrities. Much was written of his parents' split in 2003, as Gere and Carey chose to go separate ways. There were cheap shots thrown, and much speculation when talks of the divorce were brought to light in particular. Homer was thrust into the spotlight again due to an ongoing custody battle between his parents.
How Parenting Split Affected Homer
Hannah Dunne is the sister that many may not know of. She is from her mother's prior relationship to Thomas Griffin Dunne. Dunne is an actor, producer, and director. Just last year, Homer was thrilled to welcome his half-brother to the world when Gere and Alejandra Silva had their baby boy in NYC.
Homer’s Low Profile Lifestyle
Unlike his superstar father, Homer would rather maintain a relatively low profile. While he is now living in NYC, he has been rewarded with the charm that his father Richard is known for. In contrast to his father, Homer enjoys staying out of the spotlight, although he has made many public appearances with his parents over the years.
Homer continues to spend time with the elder Gere, as he and his father spent time recently during the film festival, “Giffoni Film Festival,” in Italy.
