Richard Gere And Alejandra Silva's Relationship Proves Love Knows No Age

Richard Gere is an award-winning American actor who is known all over the world for his work in the entertainment industry. Over the years, he has starred in a large number of hit films and television shows, and he was even named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1999. Though he's undoubtedly found success in his career, there's one thing that he can't stop talking about—his love life. 

In 2018, Gere married Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva in an intimate ceremony in Spain. This was followed by a civil ceremony in New York City and a celebration on Cinco de Mayo at Gere's home in Pound Ridge, New York. The couple dated for four years before getting engaged. 

At 72 years old, his relationship with 38-year-old Silva was unexpected, to say the least. Despite their large age gap, both Silva and Gere say that they couldn't be happier. They seem to share a love typically only seen in movies and fairy tales. 

The couple frequently shares details about their lives together on social media. Silva shared on Instagram that Gere often writes her songs, and every morning, he asks what he can do to make her happy. In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Silva said, "I was a little lost, without life, and knowing him gave meaning to my life." 

The couple has two kids together, and each of them has a child from their previous marriages. Their first son was born in February of 2019, and they welcomed their second son in April of 2020. 

Gere and Silva began dating in 2014, but they've known each other for most of Silva's life. When she was a teenager, she met Gere briefly when he borrowed a boat from her father, the former Vice President of the Real Madrid Football Club. Their paths didn't cross again until 2014, when they both stayed at the same hotel owned by Silva's family. 

A friend re-introduced the couple to one another at the hotel. They connected immediately, and according to Silva's interview with Hello!, they've been together ever since. "We looked at each other and felt a very strong connection," Silva said. "We couldn't stop looking at each other all night, and since then we haven't been apart." The rest, as they say, is history. 

They began dating very quickly, even though the conditions weren't exactly ideal. When they started dating, both Gere and Silva were going through a divorce. Though this could have made their relationship more difficult, they used the shared experience as a way to bond and connect with one another. 

In fact, there seems to be no obstacle that the power couple can't overcome. Before their wedding, Silva even changed her religion for Gere. Though she was raised Catholic, she converted to Buddhism for Gere. In an interview with Madrid ABC, Silva said, "I was born Catholic, but converted to Buddhism two years ago. I think it was already inside of me. I believe in reincarnation, so that's why I think I was Buddhist before realizing it."

From their first date to starting a family, every step of the couple's relationship seems to be taken straight out of a romance novel. Gere proposed on Silva's birthday at a hotel in St. Paul de Vence. She said the hotel was the most romantic hotel she's ever been to and told Hello! Magazine, "I get emotional just remembering it." 

Leading up to the wedding, the couple invited both of their families to stay with them on a large property in Spain. Thirty-nine of their loved ones stayed on the property together for a full week, and when it was over, Silva said that seeing everyone spending time together made them fall more in love than before. 

When the wedding day arrived, it was just as romantic and extravagant as the proposal. The couple imported tents from Jaipur and decorated the property with flowers and Tibetan flags. They made their grand arrival in a tuk-tuk, which is a type of open-air rickshaw with three wheels. 

Though Silva speaks about their relationship more often than Gere, he has plenty to say about his wife. In the same interview, Gere called himself the happiest man in the world. "How could I not be?" Gere said. "I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook…you can't get any better than that." 

Despite all their differences, their relationship is the ultimate testament that love conquers all. It's safe to say that both Gere and Silva will continue their love story for the rest of their lives.
