When it comes to rock music, the world has a wide range of possibilities. All it takes is a click of a few buttons on a phone to be given a broad selection of music options. However, few artists are able to gain quite the popularity of Buddy Holly. Even though he first became famous back in the 1950s, Buddy Holly remains an important figure in the rock industry today.

Holly was born in the thickest of the Great Depression and lived with his family in Texas. While times were tough and money was tight, Buddy was born into a family that was musically inclined. Buddy and his brothers and sisters would be taught how to play the guitar and sing.

In 1952, Buddy Holly made his musical TV debut at a gas station there in Texas. He was only fifteen-years-old at the time. From there on, Buddy continued to rock the world and transform the music industry. He skyrocketed to stardom, amazing everyone with his talents and new sound.

Sadly, Buddy passed away far too early when he had a sudden death at 22-years-old.

Despite his early death, Buddy Holly changed the entire way that the world viewed rock music. It is rumored that Paul McCartney and John Lennon both got their interest in rock music when they saw Buddy perform at the London Palladium when the boys were both just teens. Elton John also paid tribute to the famous star by thanking Buddy Holly back when he started playing at the hotel bar as a teenage piano musician.

While Buddy is long gone, his music remains. His song “That’ll be the Day” rocked the entire world and we’re probably all familiar with the tune. Buddy wrote the song in honor of John Wayne’s character in the movie “The Searchers”.

In 1957, Buddy Holly and the Crickets performed “That’ll be the Day” and you can still enjoy the performance. Dressed in tuxedos with wire-framed glasses and slicked-back hair, the band members certainly look different than the rock stars we’re used to today!

No matter how much things may have changed over the years, we can never allow ourselves to forget this brave young man who influenced rock music and made it what it is today.
