American Tourists Don't Recognize The Queen While Chatting With Her At Balmoral Castle

Queen Elizabeth was out on a walk around her property of Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire in Scotland one day. It was a regular stroll but all of a sudden, a group of American tourists bumped into her and started chatting with her. They apparently didn’t recognize the monarch and it was very evident when they asked if she had ever met the Queen.

Taking the opportunity to play a little joke on the group, she responded with a witty “No, but this policeman has,” gesturing towards her bodyguard, Richard Griffin. Griffin recounted the charming story in a recent interview with The Times, as per The Daily Mail.

Griffin also mentioned that the group asked if she lived nearby, and she answered directly that yes she did own a house in the vicinity. He recounted that he did not want to blow the Queen’s cover, and the group continued on the day without even knowing who they had just met.

Perhaps without her signature bright colors, gems, and fleet of staff around her, they weren’t able to recognize the woman whose face is emblazoned on all British and Commonwealth currency.

The Queen usually dresses down during her relaxing summer stays at Balmoral, and that day she was in her customary headscarf, tweeds, and Wellington boots. The castle’s grounds are sprawling, including many cottages and gardens according to the Royal Family’s website. The weather is also unpredictable in Scotland so her outfits tend to reflect the practicality of visiting the property.
