Queen Elizabeth II Pranked A Police Officer After He Didn't Recognize Her Official Car

During the course of her life, Queen Elizabeth II had many glamorous moments. After all, she was the reigning monarch for seven decades. With a life full of elegance and grace, it’s safe to say that the queen had many moments that many people would have loved to have been in her place.

However, despite being a prominent figure for such a long time, the queen wasn’t always recognized whenever she would go on public outings. The royal family has many residences and extravagant homes outside of Buckingham Palace, so it could be possible to see a family member somewhere else. This could also be the reason why some people may not expect to spot a member of the royal family.

Every summer, the queen would spend time at her favorite vacation home, Balmoral Castle, a dreamy and sprawling estate nestled in the peaceful Scottish highlands. The residence has been referred to as the queen’s favorite place to stay, and while there, she would enjoy picnics, dog walking and visits from the rest of her family. The royal even had some funny tasks to keep her busy, so she didn’t get bored.

On one occasion, while at Balmoral, the queen was spotted by a group of American tourists who didn’t recognize her. They had even asked the queen if she had ever met the then-reigning monarch! But this wasn’t the only time the queen failed to be recognized. Her official car had been pulled over once, and the officer was in for a big surprise when he saw the passenger sitting in the backseat.

Queen Elizabeth II was an extraordinary woman who achieved quite a lot during the 96 years of her life. Of those years, she was the Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 Commonwealth realms for over 70 years, which was an incredible feat. Furthermore, her lengthy reign earned her a score of titles, including the second longest-reigning monarch in human history. She took the spot in June 2022 after making it to her 70th year as queen earlier in the year. 

The queen’s life has continued to fascinate people, including her early life before she ever took over the throne, despite the fact that she wasn't always destined to become the ruling monarch. And while the queen showed that she was more than capable of holding such a powerful, regal and elegant position, she also showed off her wonderful personality and cheeky mannerisms over the years. This was especially seen while the queen was surrounded by a group of foreign tourists who somehow didn’t even recognize her!

The queen’s former protection officer, Richard Griffin, worked closely with the monarch for more than 30 years. He spoke to The Times and revealed that the clueless American tourists asked Her Royal Highness if she lived in the area, to which she replied that she had a house nearby, as per The Mirror.

Griffin said the encounter then became awkward as the visitors asked the monarch if she had ever met the queen. Griffin said she replied: "No, but this policeman has," and gestured toward him. The former officer said the group then moved along without any idea who they had just met.

This wasn’t the only time the queen failed to be recognized by someone. According to the Daily Mail, the queen and her daughter, Anne, Princess Royal, were being driven from Buckingham Palace several years ago in the queen’s official car. A young and inexperienced police officer pulled the driver over and proceeded to ask to see his license.

According to the Daily Mail, it appeared that the young officer may have seen that the car had no number plate but seemed to have missed the royal insignia on it. However, the driver wasn’t too phased by being pulled over. Instead, he motioned to point out that he had a very important passenger sitting in the backseat.

What no one could have predicted was just how hilarious the queen decided to act at that moment. Since the police officer chose not to peek into the backseat and continued to tell off the driver, the queen came up with a scheming plan. She slid down to the floor of the car and instructed her daughter to do the same, so they would both be out of sight.

Finally, the police officer realized that the person he pulled over was, in fact, the driver for the queen. And low and behold, the queen had managed to pull off a pretty silly prank in the process, too. She surely created an unforgettable moment for that officer!

While many people may remember the queen for her effective leadership and her grace, many others will never forget the incredible sense of humor she had.
