While much has been made of Queen Camilla’s past relationships, the private affairs of her former husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, have mostly flown under the radar. Now, however, he has created a stir online and in the media after news of his recent romantic interest – who also happens to be a famous television personality – went public.
Parker Bowles is best known for being Camilla’s first husband. They were married in 1973 at the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks, in London. At the time, Camilla was 25 years old, while her then-husband was 33. It was a highly public society wedding that included many royal guests, including Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. At the time, many were under the impression that Camilla would wed the then Prince Charles, with whom she had struck up a close friendship after meeting at a party a few years prior.
According to The Telegraph, Charles was heartbroken at the news of Camilla's wedding, and he wrote to Lord Mountbatten that same year about his heartbreak:
“I suppose the feeling of emptiness will pass eventually.”
Although Charles and Camilla were no longer romantically involved, the pair remained close friends, with Charles even becoming the godfather of Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles.
Charles would go on to marry Princess Diana in 1981. Only more than 30 years later would he and Camilla wed in 2005.
As for Parker Bowles, he and Camilla also had a daughter, Laura Lopes, before divorcing in 1995. Their marriage was a particularly fraught one, with reports of Parker Bowles having numerous extramarital affairs, including with some of Camilla’s friends, while Camilla maintained her closeness with Charles, which allegedly caused friction with Princess Diana.
After his divorce from Camilla, Parker Bowles largely faded from public view. In 1996, he married Rosemary Alice Pitman. The pair even attended Camilla and Charles’ wedding in 2005. In 2015, he faced a personal tragedy when Pitman passed away from complications associated with cancer.
By 2024, at the age of 84, rumors began to swirl about Parker Bowles’ latest love affair, this time with one of British television’s most fiery personalities, Anne Robinson. The red-headed 79-year-old is most recognized as the host of the highly popular BBC game show “The Weakest Link,” where she picked up her now notorious reputation as a fierce and blunt character who does not easily suffer fools. Robinson had been previously married to journalist John Penrose, but they divorced in 2007.
By the end of 2023, word around town was that Parker Bowles and Robinson were in a romantic relationship. However, it was not until May 2024 that this was confirmed by Robinson, who, when questioned about the legitimacy of the reports, told Saga Magazine:
“Yes. Full Stop. Mind your own business.”
Fans were thrilled at the news of the blooming romance between the two.
“84❤️79, we need more love stories like this,” one user wrote, while another said, “Good for her. As she said, it's her business not ours.”
“Good, I hope they’re happy!” a third user exclaimed.
Parker Bowles and Robinson, who reportedly met through mutual friends during a lunch, both live in Cotswolds and keep a relatively low profile. However, Robinson admitted that the craving for excitement and spontaneity sometimes hits her.
“I’d say that like everything else I’ve done, it’s always worth the risk. I’m a great believer in surprising yourself by taking risks. Personally and professionally. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If the worst that can happen is you get some egg on your face, that’s not terrible is it?” she said.
