Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden are now proud parents of four children – three sons and a newborn daughter. On Feb. 12, 2025, the royals shared the first official photograph featuring all four of their children, marking a special moment following the birth of their daughter, Princess Ines.
In detail, the youngest princess, whose full name is Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, Duchess of Västerbotten, was born at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm on Feb. 7, 2025, and a few days later, Carl Philip and Sofia expressed their gratitude for the public’s warm wishes. They released two heartwarming images of their bundle of joy on their official Instagram account to celebrate the occasion.
Before marrying into the Swedish royal family, Princess Sofia explored several different career paths. In her early 20s, she worked as a model and appeared in publications such as Vogue Scandinavia. The princess also briefly ventured into reality television, participating in the Swedish show “Paradise Hotel” in 2004, where contestants lived together in a luxury hotel. From 2005 to 2007, she took on a more grounded role, working as a waitress at the well-known New York pizzeria Serafina.
Alongside her various professional experiences, Sofia pursued education and personal development. In 2005, while living in New York, she became a certified yoga instructor and studied business development. Her passion for wellness and entrepreneurship eventually led her to open her yoga studio and launch a clothing line. Sofia also has a few personal style statements that set her apart. She has three tattoos – a sun on her back, a butterfly on her ribcage, and a small design on her ankle – reflecting her individuality long before stepping into royal life.

Among the well-wishers congratulating Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were Princess Beatrice of York and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, is a niece of King Charles III. She and Edoardo first met Carl Philip and Sofia at the World Dyslexia Assembly in Sweden in 2022 and reunited with them at the event’s New York edition in 2023.
The Swedish royal couple delighted the public by sharing the first official photographs of their four children. In the heartwarming images, their three sons – Prince Alexander, 8, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 3 – gathered around their newborn sister, Princess Ines. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia captioned the touching moment:
“It turned out to be a perfect little quartet. Big and warm thanks for all the nice congratulations to our little Ines.”
Another photo captured an incredibly tender moment, with Prince Julian kissing the top of his baby sister’s head.
The post was met with admiration, with one follower commenting:
“Such a beautiful picture.”
“Wonderful picture, so nice, brothers with their little sister,” another user said as a third gushed, “So much sweetness and love emanating from this photo. much happiness to the wonderful little family ❤️”
On Feb. 10, 2025, King Carl XVI Gustaf officially announced his granddaughter’s name during a council meeting. However, he accidentally referred to her as “Inse” instead of Ines and had to issue an apology later. As eighth in line to the Swedish throne, Ines does not hold an HRH title, which aligns with the king’s 2019 decision to limit royal styles among younger family members.
That ruling applies to all the children of Carl Philip and Sofia, Princess Madeleine, and her husband, Chris O’Neill, since they are not expected to take on royal duties in the future. Crown Princess Victoria remains first in line to the throne, followed by her children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, who are second and third in the succession order.
