Princess Eugenie Uploads Never-Before-Seen Picture From Princess Beatrice's Marriage Ceremony

Princess Eugenie took to Instagram on Thursday, May 20, to share a never-before-seen photo of her older sister, Princess Beatrice, to celebrate World Bee Day. The international occasion, chosen because it is the birthday of beekeeping pioneer Anton Janša, is meant to raise awareness about the importance of bees for the environment.
Eugenie likely selected World Bee Day to post the photo in part because of her nickname for her sister: “Beabea.” The exclusive photo features a beaming Beatrice on her wedding day as she stands with the groom, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, whom she married on July 17, 2020. The celebratory post comes just a day after Beatrice and Mozzi announced that they were expecting their first child.
Anyone who follows the royal family knows that Eugenie and Beatrice are like twins. Not only do they look alike, but they were also born within 21 months of each other and their lives have taken similar paths as well. Like her sister, Eugenie’s marriage to Jack Brooksbank in 2018 was followed by an announcement that the couple was expecting their first child in 2021. That means that by 2022 the sisters will both have started families and had their first children, which is sure to mean plenty of playdates for the Brooksbank and Mozzi families.
The influx of good news is likely a breath of fresh air for the royal family, which has been beset by tragedy and controversy during the past two years. Not only has the family dealt with Prince Harry’s departure, but the royals also mourned the loss of Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband of 73 years, who died on April 9.
“It's World Bee Day!! 🐝🐝 A day to celebrate nature's most badass little friend with their black and yellow stripes,” Eugenie wrote on Instagram alongside the never-before-seen wedding snapshot.
“But our furry little friends have to share today with my big sis Bea (🐝) who's got a little one on the way. Beabea and Edo huge congratulations on your news - can't wait to meet the little one.”
Eugenie’s celebratory post comes just a day after Beatrice and her husband Mozzi announced on the royal family’s official Twitter account that they are expecting their first child in the fall.
The announcement for Beatrice's pregnancy read:
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzo are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
Beatrice and Mozzi tied the knot in front of their closest relatives and friends at the All Saints Chapel, Windsor Great Park, in July 2021, according to The Sun. The couple had originally planned to marry at the Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace, London, in May 2020, but the wedding was scrapped as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to the publication, the ceremony was conducted with strict social distancing measures in place. Photos released from the day — like the one Eugenie shared on Thursday, May 20 — show a radiant and beautiful Beatrice wearing a tiara and dress that she borrowed from the queen. And now, Beatrice has another occasion to celebrate: her first child.

While no specific details have been released yet, this news comes as a source of joy for the queen after the devastating loss of Philip in April 2021. Beatrice has always been close to the queen, and this fact was cemented after Beatrice's wedding to Mozzi given that the bride borrowed not only the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara — which Elizabeth had worn at her wedding to Philip in 1947— but also an iconic Norman Hartnell gown that belongs to the queen. It elevated the idea of something borrowed for the wedding. According to Independent UK, Buckingham Palace revealed that the dress was “made from Peau De Soie taffeta in shades of ivory, trimmed with ivory Duchess satin, with organza sleeves” and “encrusted with diamanté and has a geometric checkered bodice.”
Beatrice also borrowed the Queen Mary fringe tiara, which Elizabeth wore on her own wedding day in 1947. According to The Court Jeweller, it's made up of 47 diamond bars made from stones that were once on a necklace that belonged to Queen Mary, which was given to her by Queen Victoria. The stunning tiara has proved popular for royal weddings as Princess Anne also wore it on her wedding day in November 1973.
A source close to the royal family discussed the big day with PEOPLE in an interview.
"The Queen was the guest of honor, and it was very important that she was there,” the source said. “It was planned for some time, and everyone had to be extremely cautious leading up to the big day because the Queen was in attendance. They had to make sure everyone who was attending was in perfect health."
