Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Kitty Spencer, married billionaire Michael Lewis in a gorgeous ceremony in Italy on June 24, 2021, at the age of 33. Kitty is the eldest child of Earl Charles Spencer and is best known for inheriting her late aunt’s beauty.

The statuesque model with Diana’s same blue eyes and blonde hair looked nothing short of enchanting during her wedding in a breathtakingly intricate and luxurious Dolce & Gabbana dress. Tatler reported that Kitty, who was already a global ambassador for Dolce & Gabbana, headed straight to the Italian designers almost as soon as she got engaged. The beautiful dress ended up being a Victorian-inspired piece with a high neck and cinched waist. Suffice it to say, Kitty looked stunning on her big day.

Kitty had kept her romance with Lewis under wraps for quite a while, leaving many surprised when she walked down the aisle with the then 62-year-old South African business mogul. The wedding was a once-in-a-lifetime event attended by many high-profile guests. However, neither of Kitty’s cousins, Prince William nor Prince Harry, attended the event, despite Kitty having attended both their weddings.

Kitty and Lewis’s nuptials were held at the Villa Aldo Brandini, located in the Frascati area of Rome, Italy, and it provided a gorgeous backdrop for a luxurious venue and party for the newly married couple and their guests. Photographs and videos from the event shared on social media left people speechless. The wedding was a three-day affair, and guests were treated to various celebrations.

As is usual during weddings, the bride’s wedding dress is always a huge talking point. Kitty’s wedding was no different, particularly as she had taken inspiration from her late aunt, Princess Diana. Read on to learn more about Kitty’s glamorous wedding and see her gorgeous dress.

Lady Kitty Spencer was born on Dec. 28, 1990, and is the eldest of Earl Charles Spencer’s children, the younger brother of Princess Diana. Kitty started dating Michael Lewis, a South African-born English businessman and fashion tycoon, in 2018. The couple kept their dating life private, most likely because they knew that their rather sizeable 32-year age gap would attract attention and criticism. Lewis proposed in 2019, and the couple planned to marry in 2020. However, the coronavirus pandemic delayed their plans.

Postponing the wedding paid off, as the incredibly lavish nuptials became the talk of the town in 2021. Hello! Magazine reported that the happy couple started their wedding weekend with a pre-wedding party that catered to a four-course meal on Friday evening. Guests were also treated to a luxury gift bag filled with an assortment of gifts. The wedding ceremony took place the next day at 6pm.

The wedding venue was intricately decorated, with the villa adorned with beautiful bouquets of pink and white flowers, both outside in stone vases and on its steel balconies. However, Kitty’s incredible wedding dress was the true gem of the wedding.

The Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown was custom-made for Kitty, who only had the fashion house in mind to design her dress. Tatler reported that Domenico Dolce said:

“Once she had received the proposal, she told us she had thought of us immediately, and we were very happy of that!”

The dress took around six months to create, with many seamstresses, painters, and artisans working in collaboration to tailor the breathtaking piece. The result was a gown with an intricate floral lace design, a high neck, long sleeves, and puffed shoulders, creating an incredibly flattering silhouette. The designers said that creating the one-of-a-kind piece was filled with “beautiful and emotional moments,” and that the process resulted in “a dream made of fabrics.”

However, one thing missing from Kitty’s wedding outfit was the Spencer Tiara, which many royal fans suspected she might have borrowed for her big day. Princess Diana often donned the Spencer Tiara, which she first wore on her wedding day.

Harper’s Bazaar reported that Kitty changed into a double organza hand-painted silk gown with flower and crystal embellishments for the wedding dinner and changed a third time into a Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress embroidered with silver and gold beads later. The other dresses she wore during the wedding weekend also followed the same flowery motifs.

Stefano Gabbana told Tatler that Kitty was “a girl who is very attached to her origins, to England, to her heritage of the great Victorian era. And like all the English people, she has a great passion for all kinds of flowers.” Naturally, her wedding dresses incorporated both these elements, and Kitty looked beyond stunning. The wedding ceremony was followed by an after-party and yet another party on Sunday that surely had the guests reveling in celebration. Kitty certainly had a wedding to remember.

Meanwhile, Kitty also gave royal fans a rare behind-the-scenes peek of her final fitting for her wedding gowns in Milan, Italy.

“Our final fitting in Milan ♥️ Our fittings were filled with laughter, many happy tears, pure joy and unbridled passion,” she wrote on the post, along with two photos of her showing the majestic train of her gown.

In another photo posted on Instagram, Kitty thanked Domenico and Stefano for her gown’s intricate and masterful creation, which appeared to have been inspired by the massive train of Diana’s iconic wedding gown created by British fashion designer Elizabeth Emanuel

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart Domenico & Stefano for creating a gown beyond my wildest dreams for the most important day of my life 🤍 There are no words that could ever express my gratitude @dolcegabbana 🤍,” she posted

The dresses showed that Kitty had definitely inherited her late aunt’s sharp fashion sense and eye for design. This was not the only thing she inherited as Kitty also shares the same passion for the foundations and charities her late aunt had championed, including Centrepoint, an organization for homeless youth in the United Kingdom. Kitty’s father, Earl Charles, talked about her sister to People Magazine.

“Diana had a genius for people,” he said. “She could make any person, whether they were the grandest or the most humble feel totally at ease in her company.”

Likewise, Kitty’s cousin and Diana’s firstborn son, Prince William, shares the same drive and passion for Centrepoint.

“I think it goes back to when my mother first took the role when I was a small boy. I was very struck by the people I met and what they were struggling with – sleeping rough, sofa surfing, not having basic comforts a lot of us take for granted,” he explained to People Magazine
