Princess Diana was a member of the British royal family and was viewed by many as the people's princess. She was a doting mother to her two children, Prince William and Prince Harry, and was always caring for them dearly. During her time in the spotlight as a key member of the royal family due to her marriage to Prince Charles, Diana was highly respected for her friendliness, charisma, activism, and charity work. She was also well known for having an impeccable sense of style.
Once she became the Princess of Wales, Diana took on many royal duties and responsibilities and represented the royal family well at many events and functions across the Commonwealth. As a mother, much of her work centered around the upbringing of children. Diana also worked at balancing life as a mother and an important royal figure, and frequently would bring her sons with her during royal outings. She regularly broke royal traditions as she set out to be the type of mother she yearned to be.
It was a heartbreaking tragedy when Princess Diana passed away in 1997. Prince William and Prince Harry were 15 and 12-years-old. To this day, Princess Diana is still known as being an icon of the ages. Although she is no longer with us, Diana's memory has continued to live on through her sons. William and Harry are all grown up, and each has families of their own. With royalty, philanthropy, marriages, and children— the boys still consider their mother a large part of their lives. They believe the beloved Princess Diana lives on through them.
Always putting her children as her first priority, Diana made sure to include them during her royal outings and engagements. The Independent reported that Diana took William with her on her first overseas tour in 1983 when he was only nine months old. This broke standard protocol, as two heirs to the throne never traveled together in case of a tragedy. However, Diana was used to breaking away from the old traditions the royal family had set in place long ago.
In April 1985, Charles and Diana took both of their sons on a 17-day tour of Italy, as per the Independent. Harry was only seven months old at the time. Diana had previously taken Harry on a trip to Scotland the month before. Keeping up with her tradition of breaking common royal traditions, Diana also opted not to homeschool her children. According to the Independent, William became the first royal child not to have any homeschooled education. Both he and Harry attended the Wetherby School in Notting Hill.
While Diana was always sure to take William and Harry along with her to formal engagements, she also did many normal activities with her sons. For example, they frequently went out to the movies, visited amusement parks, and enjoyed standard day-to-day activities with one another. Diana truly seemed to enjoy having fun with her sons and was usually seen laughing and smiling alongside William and Harry. Harry explained that her motto was: "You can be as naughty as you want, just don't get caught." Even though the Princes are both older now with children, you can see that motto lives on with their children as well.

After the Oprah with Meghan and Harry interview debuted on national television in March of 2021, Prince Harry's relationship with his brother and the rest of the royal family has been under intense speculation. When Prince Harry was asked about his relationship with his brother during the 2019 ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Harry said:
"…Look, we're brothers, we'll always be brothers. And we're certainly on different paths at the moment, but I'll always be there for him, as I know he'll always be there for me. We don't see each other as much as we used to because we're so busy, but you know, I love him dearly. The majority of this stuff [in the press] is created out of nothing, but you know, as brothers, you know, you have good days, you have bad days."
Although Princess Diana never got to meet Prince William's or Prince Harry's spouses or children, she would have adored her growing family. Prince William now has three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louie. Prince Harry has two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet.
As the boys have grown into men, Prince William and Prince Harry have both taken on their mother's legacy regarding being advocates for mental health and are beloved by royal fans. However, ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left their duties as working royals behind after Megxit, there has reportedly been a rift between the two brothers.
Recently, the whole royal family was reunited for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. This historic event celebrated the Queen's 70-year reign as Queen. The family celebrated with a multi-day extravaganza. Church services, concerts, and public appearances all took place in and around Buckingham Palace.
