The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, often use holidays like Mothering Sunday, Father’s Day, and their children’s birthdays to share personal family photos with the public. Their annual Christmas card is another cherished tradition, offering glimpses into their lives behind palace walls. On Mar. 30, 2025, the mother of Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, celebrated Mothering Sunday – the British equivalent of Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom – with a special post.
The 2025 celebration starkly contrasted with 2024’s when Princess Catherine faced one of the most challenging periods of her life. Throughout much of 2024, she remained out of the public eye while undergoing cancer treatment. Thankfully, by the autumn, Princess Catherine slowly began resuming her royal duties. Then, in January 2025, she delivered the uplifting news that she was in remission. Since then, she has gracefully returned to the spotlight, balancing solo engagements with joint appearances alongside Prince William.
Catherine’s 2024 Mother’s Day tribute taken by Prince William captured widespread attention. The photo of the Princess seated in a chair surrounded by her three children was intended as a warm and intimate glimpse into their family life. However, it quickly became the center of headlines for different reasons. Not only was it her first public appearance in weeks following a “planned abdominal surgery” in January 2024, but shortly after the holiday was when she revealed her cancer diagnosis, adding even more significance to the moment.

Moreover, controversy erupted less than 12 hours after the image was posted, as major news agencies flagged potential digital alterations. A spokesperson for the Associated Press told The Telegraph:
“The photo shows an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte’s left hand,” with additional concerns over clothing distortions and blurred areas in the image.
Princess Catherine publicly addressed the Photoshop controversy the day after it surfaced, taking to social media to clarify the situation.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she admitted. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”
A royal source explained that the intent behind the photo was “to offer an informal picture of the family together for Mother’s Day.” The insider added that the royal family “spent Mother’s Day together and had a wonderful day.”
Fast forward a year later, her 2025 Mother’s Day post, a heartfelt tribute to Mother Nature, featured a beautifully crafted video showcasing various outdoor scenes. She captioned it:
“Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary. This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life. C”
Reflecting on her journey, Ailsa Anderson, former press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II, told PEOPLE:
“Fast-forward, and what a difference a year makes. She’s even more beloved in the nation’s hearts than she was.”
