With the return of Princess Catherine to the public eye and royal duties following her remission announcement in January 2025, she and Prince William are once more in the limelight as a couple or with their three children. William and Catherine are known for their passion for sports and organizations that they hold patronage over, particularly rugby. As the Prince of Wales, William is a staunch supporter of the Welsh rugby team and as the patron of English rugby, Catherine is known for supporting the Red Roses.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have long been celebrated for their shared passion for sports, a trait that strengthens their bond and draws fascination to their public personas. This dynamic was on full display during the 2025 Six Nations rugby match between England and Wales at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, where their friendly rivalry took center stage.

While the on-field rivalry between England and Wales raged on, fans were even more enthralled and amused by the friendly rivalry between the Prince and Princess of Wales as each cheered on their team. They were also seated between the president of the England Rugby Football Union and the president of the Wales Rugby Union. Prince William further showed his loyalty to the Welsh team by wearing the Welsh Rugby Union red and white tie. However, it was the Princess of Wales who ended the night on a higher note as England beat Wales 68 - 14.

Before the match got underway on Mar. 15, 2025, Prince William and Princess Catherine took some time to meet with seriously injured players and their loved ones in the Sir Tasker Watkins Suite, which the royals opened in 2023.

The couple’s competitive spirit extends beyond their personal interests and into their family life. Their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – are actively involved in various sports, with rugby being a significant focus. Although William and Catherine attended the match without their children, it has been previously reported that their little ones are sports enthusiasts, too. Catherine had previously remarked on Louis's fearless approach when playing rugby, affectionately describing him as a “kamikaze” due to his enthusiastic playing style. Elaborating on Prince Louis’ passion for the sport, Princess Catherine said

“They’re all enjoying it, Louis is kamikaze, we're worrying about when he gets older, he’ll be in the middle of everything.”

This familial involvement in sports reflects the couple’s passions and emphasizes their commitment to fostering an active and engaged lifestyle for their growing children. While the kids missed out on the match, the rugby match between England and Wales highlighted the sporting rivalry between the two nations. It also offered a charming insight into the personal dynamics of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Their shared love for rugby, coupled with their friendly competition, continues to endear them to the public, reflecting a modern royal couple who balance tradition with relatable personal interests. This was displayed at England and Wales’s Six Nations Rugby match.
