Princess Anne made an appearance at one of the royal family’s engagements, where she was seen stunning her adorers and turning heads. The Princess Royal, 74, showcased the effortless grace and poise that we all know and love as she joined the rest of the royal family at the 2024 Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, which was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall. She shocked many style enthusiasts when she stepped out in a hairstyle different from her swept-up, classic ballerina chignon, debuting a new hairstyle for the first time in some 50 years.

The Princess Royal looked demure and elegant in a tailored dress paired with a silk scarf with a unique pattern and a black suit jacket combining the ever-glamourous velvet and satin. She opted for loafers and black tights to complete the look. Ever the picture of class, the Princess Royal complemented her look with the poppy that people adorn on the day to honor those who have dedicated their lives to service, the sacrifices made by the armed forces, veterans and their families. She also went for a beautiful oval pearl brooch, pearl and diamond earrings, a gold watch and a ring on her finger.

While her outfit cut a striking figure, it wasn’t what stood out the most about her on the occasion. We couldn’t help but notice the subtle and pretty change she had made to her hair, making it appear just a little different but still sophisticated.

Princess Anne has been known to embrace her gray hair, allowing it to blend with the deep brown hues she had in her youth. However, she switched the look up at the Royal Albert Hall on Nov. 9, 2024, and showed up with the chocolate-shaded hair that she had during her younger days. Her minimal makeup and classic lipstick further accentuated the subtle change. She has always shown up for the royal family, and done so in the most respectful manner, like opting for pearls, which are more appropriate for occasions marking grief.

Despite noticeably changing her hair color, Princess Anne is unlikely to change her style altogether. Having donned it for decades, the look works for her and reportedly takes just about 15 minutes. She revealed this after speculation over her hair during a promotion of “The Crown.” The Princess Royal expressed her preference for practicality over following every trend set when she said:

“I’m thinking, ‘How could you possibly take that long?’ I mean, it takes me 10 or 15 minutes.”

A working member of the royal family – also famous for competing at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal as part of the British equestrian team – the Princess Royal seems unfazed by passing trends and maintains her traditional, perfected aesthetic. Her loyalty to the beehive-shaped hairstyle knows no bounds, as she even had time to put it up when she left the hospital after the births of her children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall. Her consistency with her look also extends to her work, as she is known to be one of the hardest-working royals, a fact that endears her to the public.
