Prince William’s Scruffy New Look Divides The Internet After ‘Copying’ Prince Harry’s Iconic Look

The royal family is a tight-knit group that does their best to be there for one another through thick and thin. Whether gathering for a special event or just spending the day together for a royal engagement, the royal family members have shown that they truly care for each other. Kate Middleton and Prince William married in April 2011 and have been gracing the world with their beautiful romance ever since. They have three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. 

Over the years, the family has been spotted out and about during royal engagements and typical everyday activities. In spite of this effort, Kate and William have done their best to keep their personal life private and show how much of a normal family they are. Throughout their many outings and interactions, the royal couple has shown love, affection and support for each other and their kids.

As the British royal family was rocked with serious health issues in 2024, the Wales family was particularly impacted after Kate was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer. Since then, the couple has been getting back on their feet as the Princess of Wales continues her recovery in private. 

Since Kate and King Charles took a step back from attending royal engagements, William pulled more focus from the public, which is why every noticeable action or change that happens to him is highly talked about. 

While many know William to have sported a clean look on his appearance, the future king experimented with a more scruffy look. The look has since become a topic of much debate on social media, especially after many have compared it to his estranged brother, Prince Harry. 

In a video posted by the Prince and Princess of Wales' official Instagram account on Aug. 11, 2024, the royals, other celebrities, and British personalities congratulated the successful Olympians on their brilliant performances in the recently concluded 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. According to the official Olympic medal tally, Great Britain placed 7th overall with 14 Olympic gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 26 bronze medals, totaling 65 medals. 

“Well done @teamgb, what an incredible journey! Every athlete showed immense dedication, heart and passion. You made us all so proud! Here’s to celebrating every triumph at @paris2024 and looking forward to more from @paralympicsgb_official later in the summer 🇬🇧🥇” the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote in the video's caption. 

In the video, Kate congratulated Team Great Britain, speaking on behalf of all the British people who were watching at home supporting the athletes. William, who sported a fuller bearded look, stood happily by her side as he said his part. 

“Well done on all you’ve achieved. You’ve been an inspiration to us all,” William added. 

The video also featured the Prince and Princess of Wales, rapper Snoop Dogg, football superstar David Beckham and other personalities. 

Meanwhile, in the comments, royal family fans couldn’t help but chuckle after seeing William’s bold hairy look. 

“Great to Catherine again, and William unshaved haha, it’s been years since we’ve seen that, what a sight!” a fan raved. 

“Wow! William looks hot ! Nice tan and lovely stubble! I’m middle aged woman! I’m flushing! 😂😂” another wrote. 

“Love this!! 🇬🇧 love William’s beard and Catherine looks lovely as always!!” a third person echoed. 

“Omg I am loving William's beard, and David Beckham 😍😍😍😍 so glad to see the Princess. Love this video so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️” a fourth person said.

Prince William’s visit to the Parc y Scarlets to boost the morale of the Scarlets Rugby Union team sparked a heated debate on social media about his appearance—specifically, his decision to grow a beard. Many said the scruffy beard does not fit the future king. 

“Not a good look on him,” a user said in an Instagram post from Page Six.

“Sorry William I don’t like the stubble 😏,” another commented on the Instagram post of the Prince and Princess of Wales. 

Some even pointed out that it wasn’t the only significant thing that happened to William’s appearance. 

“William lost weight and aged. He needs to rest and be for himself. With harry, his father and wife all too much pressure on his shoulders!!” another commented. 

Others thought that William growing his beard was a good idea. 

One wrote on Instagram, “It looks good on him,” echoing others, “I love the beard!” 

“Even more handsome with his beard😍😍.” 

However, someone pointed out that William copied his brother Harry in growing his beard. 

“The told William not grow his beard, so he copying Harry when had a flight with to shaved it. William is always copying Harry,” a user claimed. 

In Harry’s controversial memoir, “Spare,” the Duke of Sussex noted that his decision to grow his beard got him in a tussle with William, who was heavily against it because of military rules. According to Harry, his beard has been his “security blanket. " He even sought permission from the late Queen Elizabeth II who supported his decision to grow it out.

“But then I explained it to my brother and he…bristled?" Harry recalled. “When I informed him that his opinion didn't really matter, since I'd already gone to Granny and got the green light, he became livid. He raised his voice.” 

Years after chastising Harry about his beard, Prince William decided to grow a beard himself.
