Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in 2018, the details surrounding their marriage still remain intriguing for many – from her very romantic something blue and her solo wedding procession to her groom picking out the flowers for her wedding bouquet himself. Meghan famously did part of her wedding procession alone before being escorted by her father-in-law, King Charles the rest of the way down the aisle. By all accounts, it was a wonderful royal wedding.
However, the wedding also brought on its fair share of royal family drama. There are claims that the wedding ceremony itself created a rift between the couple and the Prince and Princess of Wales. In addition to this, there are also allegations that Prince William was less-than-pleased about the topic of Meghan’s wedding tiara and its link to his mother, Princess Diana.
The royal family is never short of jewels, with a wide selection of crowns and tiaras, among many other pieces. At her wedding in 2011, Kate Middleton wore the halo tiara from Cartier, lent to her by Queen Elizabeth. While media outlets and the public were dying to know the details about her dress and jewels, many were also curious about which of the royal tiaras she would choose.
According to reports, Meghan wanted to wear Princess Diana’s tiara for her wedding to Harry, causing her brother-in-law William to be displeased. This apparently caused some issues between the couple and the Prince and Princess of Wales, especially between the two brothers.

Details of the tension between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Prince and Princess of Wales were revealed by Prince Harry in his controversial memoir, “Spare.” According to royal biographer Robert Jobson in his book, “Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography,” the situation only worsened after the 2018 wedding. In the book, Jobson revealed that Prince William was adamant against his future sister-in-law wearing his mother’s wedding tiara on her big day, despite it being what she reportedly wanted to wear. He even went as far as putting in a special request to his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth.
“By the time William was confirmed as best man, the relationship had worsened. I have been told that, still concerned about the match, he’d sought assurances from the Queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewelry, even though his wife was allowed to wear it,” writes Jobson.
This rumor is somewhat confirmed by the fact that Meghan ended up wearing Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, which was lent to her by Queen Elizabeth after she reportedly denied her request to wear Princess Diana’s tiara. Regardless of all the drama behind the scenes of Harry and Meghan's wedding, the couple still had a magical ceremony at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
King Charles, who walked Meghan down the aisle, was reportedly happy about Harry’s love match. Harry revealed his father’s reaction when he asked him to walk Meghan down the aisle:
“I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming, and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you.'” Harry reminisced.
