Prince William Slammed For His 'Ridiculous' Outfit At Event Alongside Chic Celebrities

Prince William made headlines yet again while in attendance at the 2024 Earthshot Prize Awards in Cape Town, South Africa. The British royal sparked debate among his fans for more than his involvement in the prestigious event, but instead for his casual outfit choice! The prince also revealed some interesting insight into Princess Catherine’s health. 

As he walked the green carpet alongside A-list celebrities, some social media users called him out on his attire and said it was too casual for a person of his caliber. 

The night started strong with a standout entrance from Prince William alongside Earthshot Prize CEO Hannah Jones who wore a maroon-colored ensemble. Many locals expressed their excitement by cheering and dancing in traditional attire, warmly welcoming him to the event.

While the prince's look sparked some debate, the event itself was indeed a glamorous affair. It celebrated five winning organizations – from nearly 2,500 nominees across 75 countries – that are aimed at solving environmental challenges.

Other note-worthy guests in attendance were ambassadors of the Earthshot Prize, conservationist Robert Irwin and actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who donned a yellow pouf-sleeved gown.

Co-hosts Billy Porter and Bonang Matheba both dazzled in chic outfits, with Porter in a monochrome suit and Matheba in a glittering gown. 

Also in attendance were A-list supermodels Winnie Harlow, who chose an elegant chocolate-colored gown, and supermodel Heidi Klum. The latter wore a striking tangerine dress and fangirled over her excitement about meeting Prince William. She even posted a photo with the royal on her Instagram account, in addition to a group picture with a few of the other famous attendees. 

Fans had a lot to say about Prince William's appearance at the 2024 Earthshot Prize Awards, with many commenting on his casual outfit. One user sarcastically wrote under IOL News’s video post:

"He didn't pack a formal suit?" 

However, others rose to his defense. One user noted that Porter wasn’t dressed formally either, as they wrote: "neither (sic) did Billy Porter!" The initial critic then responded: "Billy Porter has style. That suit hitting the right spot," to which the other user replied: "it just doesn't fit. Looks not right (sic). We are people of glitz and glam. We own it."

Meanwhile, another person wrote about William's attire, "He looks ridiculous." Some even poked fun at his appearance, with one user commenting: "Did he get dressed in the dark or?" Another commented on X: "He's really taking this grubby homeless look too far now."

The prince’s eco-friendly sneakers were also scrutinized. One Instagram user wrote:

"Not liking the trainers." Another stated: "Not a good look!" 

Another netizen humorously compared William’s look to Robert Irwin's more polished appearance, commenting:

"Robert Irwin looks like the prince here, I don't know about William."

Amid the waves of criticism, one fan offered a glimmer of positivity, praising William's look: "Love the blazer! 💚💚💚," while another added: "It's a lovely blazer. The rest of the outfit is not as lovely."

Before the event, Prince William, who was spotted working with event coordinators at the venue, took a moment to speak with Sky News about the gala. 

Among the topics they talked about was Princess Catherine’s health following her completion of chemotherapy, with the interviewer inquiring about how she was doing. William revealed:

"She's doing really well, thanks, and hopefully she's watching tonight and uhm, sort of cheering me on ... She's been amazing this whole year, and I know she'll be really keen to see tonight be a success."
