Prince Harry and Meghan's romance is a modern fairy tale with a twist. They met on a blind date in July 2016, set up by a mutual friend. Their relationship moved quickly, with Harry confirming their romance later that year. On Nov. 27, 2017, Prince Harry and Meghan announced their engagement. The news was celebrated around the world, with Meghan becoming the first American to be officially engaged to a British royal. The couple was married on May 19, 2018, in a grand royal wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. 

However, their love story took a dramatic turn as they faced intense media scrutiny and tensions within the royal family. Meghan, in particular, faced racist and sexist commentary from certain sections of the press, highlighting the challenges she encountered as a biracial woman entering the British royal family. Despite all these difficulties, Harry and Meghan were expected, as members of the royal family, to adhere to certain traditions and protocols, including public engagements, official duties, and a strict code of conduct when in public. However, Meghan’s background as an American actress and outspoken nature clashed with traditional royal norms, leading to criticism and clashes within the institution.

In 2020, they stepped back from their royal duties and moved to the United States in a move often dubbed “Megxit.” They remain a strong couple, raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in California.

Although Harry and Meghan stepped down from their duties as senior royals, they have not shunned the spotlight, appearing at public charity events and pursuing their own creative and philanthropic ventures, many under their own brand, Archewell. 

Despite distancing themselves from the British monarchy, they have continued to embrace one custom that thrills fans every year – sharing new photos of their family for each yearly Christmas card!

Although Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties years ago, the couple has continued the tradition of sharing their Christmas season holiday card, much like other royal family members.

For their 2020 greeting card, they chose a picture taken in their sunny Montecito home rather than the traditional wintery scene. The image featured them both with Archie and their two dogs, Guy and Pula, smiling inside their festive garden shed.

They switched things up in their extra special 2021 snap as their daughter, Lilibet, made her adorable debut appearance. The photo showed them all sitting on their porch at home.

The message on the card read: 

“This year, 2021, we welcomed our daughter, Lilibet, to the world. Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa’, and Lili made us a family.” 

In 2022, the royals kept their greetings super sleek, with a captivating black-and-white photograph that showcased the couple alone.

The heartfelt message on the card read:

“From our family to yours, and on behalf of our team at The Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archewell Productions, we wish you health, peace, and a very happy new year!” 

Their 2023 Christmas card did not feature their two adorable children. It only featured a snap of the couple beaming at the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf. 

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex established The Archewell Foundation in 2020 as a vehicle for their philanthropic work, and since then, they have included it in the writing of their holiday cards.

The motto of Prince Harry and Meghan’s foundation is “Show Up, Do Good,” and as part of their work, they’ve traveled to many countries around the globe. In 2024, they also included snaps from their travels worldwide as part of the foundation’s initiatives.

Prince Harry and Meghan didn’t disappoint fans when they unveiled their 2024 Christmas card, particularly as it included heartwarming family portraits with their rarely-seen children, Archie and Lilibet. 

Prince Harry and Meghan’s 2024 card featured six photos and graced the world with new pictures of their kids, Archie, aged 5, and Lilibet, 3, thrilling fans. One snap showed them from behind as they excitedly ran towards their parents. Another photo in the montage, set on a dark green background with little white stars, showed Meghan smiling at Archie while Prince Harry greeted Lilibet, who has long red hair like her brother’s. 

The card read:

“On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation.”

In 2024, they traveled to Nigeria in May and Colombia in August to further Archewell’s key charitable initiatives, and the other images on the card included snaps of the couple from these trips. The message on it read:

“We wish you a very happy holiday season and a joyful new year.”

The Sussexes are known for keeping their children’s lives private, so the inclusion of Archie and Lilibet in the card was a rare glimpse into their family life.

A close friend of the couple confirmed to People magazine that the Sussexes' preference for privacy remained a priority, especially regarding their young children.

“Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats. He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm,” the source said. 

The insider also explained why the couple keeps their personal lives so private, referring to the tragic fate of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, saying:

“As a dad and husband, Harry is determined to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself.”
