Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Make Surprise Visit To Los Angeles In Midst Of Devastating Wildfires

In the wake of the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles, which has destroyed thousands of acres of land and property, many have been left distraught and without their homes. The area is home to high-profile celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and Melissa Rivers – some of the many celebrities who lost their homes. The fire also forced over 150,000 residents to evacuate the area and scorched more than 15,000 acres. Many people forced to evacuate sought shelter at the Pasadena Convention Center, where they continued to be sheltered amid the crisis. 

In addition to opening their Montecito home to their displaced friends, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently made a surprise visit to Pasadena on Jan. 10, 2025. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex once again demonstrated their commitment to humanitarian causes by offering their voluntary services alongside Chef Jose Andres' World Central Kitchen. They visited those affected by the Eaton fire, which devastated the community and lasted for days. 

The interactions were captured on camera by members of the affected community. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent the day meeting with survivors, first responders, and relief workers, offering a message of hope and solidarity to a community grappling with tragedy. Harry and Meghan also visited the local relief center in the heart of Los Angeles, where evacuees have taken shelter. 

Arriving in casual yet respectful attire – Meghan in a denim shirt and jeans, Prince Harry in a collared T-shirt and jeans – the couple listened attentively to a responder. In a post shared to Instagram of the royals, they can be seen wearing protective masks. The post was captioned:

“HARRY AND MEGHAN MEET WITH THOSE AFFECTED BY THE CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES 🙏 The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a low-key visit to the Pasadena area on Friday afternoon, in the midst of devastating wildfires that have ravaged the greater Los Angeles area.”

In addition to meeting with the elderly and the evacuated people at the Pasadena Convention Center, the two also offered their services by serving meals and handing out food parcels alongside the Governor of California’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Afterward, they visited the Pasadena Rose Bowl and thanked and appreciated the L.A. County Fire Department members and the Pasadena Police Force CalFire Department. 

According to the Mayor of Pasadena, Victor Gordo, Harry and Meghan’s visit lifted the spirits of those affected by the fires. He described the two as “great people” with “great personalities.” He added:

“They really buoyed the spirits of the first responders. We visited the command post at the Rose Bowl and people were very happy to see them.”

While some criticized Meghan for showing up wearing a Cartier bracelet and allegedly “hugging people for cams,” others lauded her and Harry for their help and donations to a charity fund set up by a local youth. 

“They’re always so caring and helpful to others,” one netizen wrote.
