Prince Harry And Oprah Winfrey To Host Another Show Together On Mental Health This Week

In cooperation with Oprah Winfrey, former working royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have embarked on a docuseries project for mental health awareness. The show, "The Me You Can't See," is executive produced by Oprah and Harry and featured the two discussing emotional well-being and mental health with a number of celebrity guests, including Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, and NBA players DeMar DeRozan and Langston Galloway.

The show also featured Oprah and Harry opening up about their own experiences with mental health. Focusing on making sure viewers know they are not alone in the struggle that sometimes happens with mental health, the show's goal is to challenge stigmas and provide insights into how viewers can start the path to treatment. 

The series debuted not long after Meghan and Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah, but the topic of mental health is one near and dear to Harry's heart. Harry's mother, the late Princess Diana, was known for her outspokenness regarding mental health and beloved by the public for her candid and honest conversations about mental well-being. 

Now the duo is at it again with another new Apple TV+ series that will debut this Friday, called "The Me You Can't See: A Path Forward." Again a conversation about mental health with experts and celebrities, the expectation is that even more truth about Harry will be revealed. The series is set to talk about struggles with depression, schizophrenia as well as anxiety.

"The Me You Can't See" is a docuseries produced by Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry. The series premiered on May 21, 2021, on Apple TV+, and it is only available to stream on the platform, which requires a subscription. According to Harper's Bazaar, the show was created in partnership with over a dozen mental health professionals ranging in different specialties as an advisory board for the docuseries. The show will also feature candid discussions with celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Glen Close, among others, as they talk about mental health. On May 17, 2021, the trailer for the show was released, and it even features some personal footage of Harry. The footage includes Harry at his mother's funeral as a boy, along with clips of Meghan Markle with their little son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The glimpse at Meghan and Harry's firstborn son in the trailer was a surprise appearance. 

The move for Prince Harry to produce a mental health docuseries is quite in line with his mother, Princess Diana's legacy. Remembered as the people's princess, Diana changed the public conversation around mental health by speaking about it openly despite her status as a member of the royal family and the taboo surrounding mental health. 

The first series was teased with a trailer that even featured a rare glimpse of Meghan and baby Archie in their home. The clip of Meghan and Archie in the trailer also goes to show just how personal and at-home the topic is for Harry. The sight of the toddler was certainly a surprise, as the family has opted for a more private life in Montecito, California after they left the UK after Megxit.

Now "The Me You Can't See: A Path Forward" is set to debut this Friday, and Harry and Oprah are expected to reveal even more truths about mental health. Again celebrities such as Glen Close, among others, will be featured in the series. The discussion will be held in a town hall-style and will reveal more about Harry's mental state. The first series already revealed how Harry struggled with grief after his mother's death and the hate that Meghan and Harry received online. In the series, Harry spoke out about his and Meghan's struggles:

"Every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, to stop just got met with total silence or total neglect. We spent four years trying to make it work. We did everything that we possibly could to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job."

In an interview with Good Morning America, Oprah expressed how involved Harry was in the series. She said:

"I will have to say Harry was in every meeting. He was there, usually on Zoom before I was, and turning in his notes before I did," Winfrey said, adding with a laugh, "I was like, 'Ugh, Harry turned in his notes already.'"

In the same interview, Harry spoke about the importance of talking publicly about mental health, much like his mother did. He said:

"Stigma thrives on silence, so as long as it thrives on silence, the best that we can all do collectively is continue to talk and share stories that are so relatable to so many people around the world."
