Prince Harry Admits To Watching ‘The Crown’ While ‘Fact-Checking’ It At The Same Time

Ever since officially leaving the royal family, Prince Harry has made it his mission to be transparent with the public about the difficulties he and his wife, Meghan Markle, experienced within the institution. Their sharp criticism of the royal family's culture in the now infamous Oprah Winfrey interview of 2021 was met with some opprobrium around the world, but the couple also found a lot of support.

The couple also embarked on a journey to document their lives since their departure from the grand halls of Buckingham Palace in the Netflix series "Harry & Meghan." The show chronicles the pair's progression from the "secret, early days of their unexpected romance" to marriage in May 2018, as well as their experiences under intense public scrutiny.

This has been followed by "Spare," Harry's memoir whose title originates from claims the prince learned that after he was born, his father, King Charles III, had told his mother, Princess Diana, shortly after his birth that she had "given me an heir and a spare."

In the run-up to the release of his memoir "Spare," Prince Harry has been busy promoting the tell-all, which led him to grace "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," to which he expounded more of the contents of his book. In the almost 40-minute interview with Colbert, the late show host asked the Duke of Sussex, who has since been living in the United States since 2020, if he has been binge-watching some shows, specifically the historical drama series "The Crown," which is heavily inspired by the story of Harry's family.

Turns out, Harry is actually watching it – and is also keen on doing one thing while watching it.

Created and written by British playwright Peter Morgan, the historical drama is released by the same streaming platform that broadcasted "Harry & Meghan," which is Netflix.

"The Crown" has sparked controversy in the past because of the highly-debated accuracy of its depiction of the characters, events, and portrayal of the British Royal Family.

According to Royal Expert Katie Nicholl, a source close to King Charles III said that one of his "fears" is that the start of his reign might be overshadowed by the "specter of his past." Nicholl has also expressed worry that the younger generation may "not be able to distinguish fact from fiction" based on their perception of how Charles was portrayed in the series.

But Prince Harry, who has confessed to watching the show, has emphasized the importance of reading his book after watching "The Crown."

"Yes, I have watched some of The Crown," Harry confessed before being asked which seasons he has tuned in to.

"The older stuff and the more recent stuff."

The cheeky Colbert then continued to ask him if he "fact-checks" the show, which prompted Harry to take down notes on air after breaking to a pause.

"Yes, I do, actually. Which, by the way, is another reason why it's so important that history has it right," he shared as he referred to his memoir "Spare."

Fans of the Duke were thrilled in the comments section, praising him for his comedic timing and his relatability with all the other fans of the show:

"He has great comedic timing love him," a fan shared

"That's hilarious. Prince Harry, he's just like us!" another commented

"He could make a great living at this! His facial expression and hand movements when 'fact-checking' the Crown WAS priceless, spot on timing!" someone posted
