Prince Edward: Lesser-Known Details Regarding The Queen's Youngest Son

Here are things you might not have known about the Queen's youngest son, Prince Edward, who has for most of his life, kept a low-profile.

Prince Charles, Prince Harry, and Prince William are well known as they are always in the news. Prince Edward is the lesser-known of the four children Queen Elizabeth II has with Prince Philip. He is the youngest of the four children. For a long time, the 56-year-old Earl of Wessex has kept his life from the limelight, as FOX Business told, seeking to remain as anonymous as possible.

Born on March 10, 1964, Prince Edward is married to Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, with whom he has two children. He is the only of his four siblings who have not divorced. The two were married in a private ceremony in 1999 at St-George’s Chapel. They celebrated their 20th anniversary in June 2019. Together, they have a daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, and a son, James, Viscount Severn.

When he was born, he was only behind his two brothers in line to take over the throne. Today, after the birth of Prince Louis, he is tenth in line. Although he seeks to stay away from the public’s prying eyes, he has started to take up more royal duties. He holds the titles the Earl of Wessex and the Earl of Forfar.

He received the title Earl of Wessex on his wedding day and the Earl of Forfar as a birthday gift from Queen Elizabeth II on March 10, 2018. He will be crowned the Duke of Edinburgh when his father, Prince Philip, dies.

Before he started taking more royal duties, Prince Edward joined the royal marines, but later quit to try a career in the arts, as reported by The Guardian. He started a career in the arts, working for theatrical production companies before starting his own company. He started Ardent Productions, which focused on TV documentaries, as a way to quench his thirst for the arts. Although he was successful in production, he is now shifting to take up more royal duties.

When his father, Prince Philip, announced that he is retiring in early 2019, Edward started talking over more engagements. He is even stepping up to represent the Queen on so many occasions. He has taken more duties from his father. Notably, he now presides over the Commonwealth Games Federation. He has also taken his father’s role and he now presides over the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which was started by Prince Philip in 1956, according to Royal Central.

Besides his royal duties, Prince Edward and Countess Sophie are a philanthropic couple. They established the Wessex Youth Trust after their wedding. Through the Trust, the couple helps and supports different charities working with disadvantaged children. They renamed the trust to The Earl and Countess of Wessex Charitable Trust after 21 years of successful charity work.

Since he took over duties from his father, Prince Edward has traveled to so many parts of the world in different capacities to oversee projects. He has been to South Africa, Israel, Baltimore, and so many other places. The Queen has added him more titles and duties, and he is now fully working as a royal. So much more is waiting for him once his father is fully released of his duties.
