Preteen Brothers Save Drowning 7-Year-Old & Are Praised For Their Heroic Actions

Not all heroes are muscular or buff. Sometimes, they come in the least expected form, but an undeniable fact is that they always save the day. While disasters can be spontaneous, finding a tactful and quick-thinking person to curb the situation is always relieving. Two little Michigan kids applied this quick-thinking trait when they saved a fellow young boy from drowning.

On July 7, 2023, Noah Roche and Weston Wood made it to the news headlines when they spotted 7-year-old Griffin Emerson in danger and skillfully saved the day from turning horrendous. Noah, Wood, and Griffin were three of several people lounging by an apartment pool. The latter had been in the shallow area with his floaties securing him on both arms.

However, he decided to try the deep end, noting that he could swim. Per ABC7, Griffin shared, "I just wanted to prove myself. Like, yeah, I can actually swim and stuff." He removed his floaters and moved towards the deep water level. Griffin thought he could handle the situation, but the story quickly changed as he began to struggle. He bopped around while dipping his head in and out of the water at intervals.

At one point, the little boy was underwater for about a minute, with no one noticing. However, this changed when Noah caught Griffin's funny movement in the pool. Noah recounted that moment:

"I saw him and I just knew that he wasn't OK. I saw him at the bottom of the pool, and then I didn't know if he was just playing down there or something."

At this moment, he urged his younger brother to join as they tried to check up on Griffin. Immediately they got in; the youngsters knew he was in danger. Wood relayed that he saw Griffin's head "going up and down" and knew he "wasn't OK." He grabbed the drowning boy and lifted him to the surface.

By then, the people at the pool were aware of the dire situation. The young boys' mom Sylese Roche immediately dialed 911, letting the first responders know the boy's condition. Griffin's mom rushed to his side and wasted no time performing CPR.

This proved to be effective. Griffin regained consciousness and coughed up water. According to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, Griffin's recovery was swift, and he returned to his family after 36 hours. Sheriff Christopher R. Swanson made it known that the best possible outcome was getting Griffin to breathe again quickly.

Noah, Weston, and Griffin reunited in a celebratory mood as the Sheriff's office honored them for the heroic deed. The little boy's grandfather Tom Kinczkowski did not hold back on his admiration for the young heroes.

He relayed that they held a place in his heart for saving his grandson while adding that "A lot of my heroes don't wear capes." He recounted the scary situation, stating that the boys pulled his grandson from the bottom and got him to safety. Kinczkowski said about Noah and Wood, "They are my heroes." According to Inside Edition, the boys were handsomely rewarded by officials who gave them a pack of books and $100 to shop.
