Pregnant Firefighter Rescues Woman In Car Accident Before Giving Birth

We always tell pregnant women to take extra care of themselves and avoid doing strenuous work to avoid complications during pregnancy. Most often than not, we even offer to do tasks at home because we want them to go through their pregnancy journey in the smoothest way possible. But the truth is, we can never really control what pregnant women want to do, especially if they are passionate about something they do. And yes, pregnant women can be persistent. So, it’s best to just let them do what they want, as long as it won’t risk their pregnancy.
But one woman may have bent the rules a little bit after she defied the odds of risking her life and her baby’s all in the name of duty.
Megan Warfield, a firefighter at the Baltimore County in Maryland, has always been fervent about helping others. Even when she was a week or two away from her due date, she still found the opportunity to help others and immediately did so without any hesitation.
Following the incident, the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue & Marine took to social media to share Warfield’s story.
Apparently, Warfield had been serving in an administrative capacity for several months. At that time, she has been patiently waiting to give birth to her child. But a week or two before she went into labor, she found herself in an accident.
“Megan had just finished organizing and hosting her late father's 2nd annual memorial golf tournament when she was involved in a significant motor vehicle collision,” the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue & Marine wrote in its Facebook post.

One would expect that Warfield would tend to herself following the accident. But no, her firefighter instinct came over her after she saw a person trapped inside an overturned car. She knew right then and there that she needed to save the life of the person.
“Ignoring any chance she could be injured, Megan immediately exited her mangled vehicle and began providing care to a person trapped by their overturned car. Megan stayed with this patient until Squad 213 arrived to free the victim. After all patients were evaluated, Megan agreed to an evaluation herself,” the fire department said.
Warfield recalled what happened when she jumped in to help the person from the overturned car.
“I started to climb in there with her, but then I was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re nine months pregnant,’” Warfield told TODAY Parents. “I ended up holding onto her to keep her in place because I wasn’t sure of her injuries at the time. “It was also important that I keep her calm,” Warfield added. “It was a pretty traumatic event.”
Thankfully, Warfield’s paramedic boyfriend, Joshua Daugherty, was among the first responders on the scene.
Right after the crash, she went to the John Hopkins Hospital to have herself checked, finding out that the accident prompted induced labor. There, she discovered that the baby had been knocked sideways.
“I don’t know how I did what I did because the cramping was so bad,” Warfield said. “I must’ve just been running on adrenaline.”
Less than 24 hours, Warfield delivered a beautiful baby girl.
Warfield indeed exhibited heroic and selfless actions when she went above and beyond to save the life of another person – and thankfully, her deed didn’t go unnoticed. Way to go, Warfield!
