Jul 05, 2019 by apost team
When you hear the word slider, criminal activity is not likely to be the first thing that comes to mind. But according to police, there’s been a rise in this particular crime all across the country. Women traveling alone have been the primary targets, and it all happens right under their noses.
The crime begins when the thief's car creeps up on their victim's car, usually at a gas station. As the victim is pumping gas, the criminal hops into the person’s vehicle and steals whatever is in reach. Typical thefts include cell phones, wallets, purses, and even laptops. This can all happen within seconds. The criminals then have a quick getaway and are back on the road in a blink of an eye.

These particular crimes have increased over the past two years. Authorities in Atlanta say of the 466 thefts reported at gas stations in 2017, 361 were slider crimes. But gas stations aren’t the only targets. Grocery stores also provide a prime location for thieves, particularly as victims are returning their carts in the parking lot. But there are some things you can do to protect yourself.
Keep your keys with you at all times and lock your doors. Failing to do so makes you an easy target for thieves.
Keep your valuables out of view. These criminals often look for victims who have everything in plain sight.
Always stay alert. While pumping your gas, be aware of your surroundings at all times.
