Pierce Brosnan Gives Tribute To His 'Bond Of Inspiration' As Sean Connery Turns 90
Aug 26, 2020 by apost team
The original James Bond, Sean Connery, celebrated his 90th birthday today, and while the many tributes he received are all special, there's one, in particular, that must feel extra nice.
Fellow former-James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, posted a tribute to Connery on Instagram, highlighting the fact that the Scotsman was his inspiration when taking on the iconic role.
Posting a classic black-and-white picture of the two on his Instagram page, both actors are looking dapper in suits and holding glasses of wine. Their handsomeness is apparent—it's as if both versions of James Bond were able to convene together via a time machine and take this photo!
Brosnan wrote a touching caption that gave us all further insight into just how much Sean Connery means to him. He wrote:
"Happy 90th birthday Sir Sean Connery ... I was eleven years old in 1964, just off the plane from Ireland when I saw Goldfinger at the ABC Cinema on Putney High Street. You were my Bond of inspiration."
Pierce Brosnan's version of James Bond was definitely a standout when considering the character's history, and it's interesting to know he was directly inspired by the original Bond himself.

Other celebrities who congratulated Connery on turning an impressive 90 years old included Piers Morgan, who stated that Connery was "the first Bond, the best Bond."
Not only celebrities but the official Bond account wished the Scotsman a happy birthday, writing:
"Happy Birthday to our original 007, Sean Connery, who turns 90 today. With love from Michael, Barbara, everyone at EON and all your fans."
Others to send birthday wishes included car manufacturer Aston Martin, BAFTA, and the Golden Globe Awards. In a cute and funny parody, the official Peppa Pig Twitter account posted an image of Daddy Pig looking dapper in a tuxedo, with the caption:
"The name's Pig. Daddy Pig. Happy 90th birthday #SeanConnery!"
Recently, Sean Connery was voted the best James Bond ever by a whopping 56 percent, beating out other popular actors who've played the role including Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.
Despite his immense popularity as the famous secret agent, beginning with his first Bond film in 1962, Connery actually wasn't Ian Fleming's top pick for the role. But his success at playing the suave character soon convinced the world, earning him various awards.
Connery has been retired since 2006, after accepting the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award. According to The Richest, he has a net worth of $120 million, a more than comfortable amount to settle down with. Although retired from acting, Connery returned to show business as an executive producer on Sir Billi, lending his talents as a voice actor as well.
We wish Sean Connery the happiest of birthdays for his 90th!
