Pierce Brosnan Gave His Wife Keely Shaye Smith The Sweetest Movie Tribute Ever

Pierce Brosnan is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. With his incredible charisma, undeniable charm and handsomeness, his name is usually, if not always, synonymous with the success of the film he is in. 

Brosnan has had many roles, but his character in the DC Comics Live Action movie “Black Adam” has given him the chance to honor his very own marriage with his wife of more than two decades, Keely Shaye Smith, in the most theatrical way possible. 

The actor is most known for his role as secret agent James Bond in four James Bond films, including “GoldenEye,” “Tomorrow Never Dies,” “The World Is Not Enough” and “Die Another Day.” He has also portrayed the character in a variety of video games in the same universe.

Brosnan moved to London, England, at 11 years old and went on to study at the Drama Center. He found work as a stage actor and quickly made his way to television and film, with one of his first breakthrough roles being in the TV series “Remington Steele.” Afterward, he found more success in films and ultimately went on to achieve worldwide fame for his role as James Bond.

However, Brosnan has had his fair share of struggles over the years. He was married to his first wife, Cassandra Harris, for 11 years before she sadly passed away. The couple had one biological son together, and Harris had two other children from a previous marriage, including Charlotte. After grieving the loss of his first wife, Brosnan also grieved the loss of Charlotte. But despite the unfortunate ending of his first marriage, the next chapter of his life was marked with new and happier beginnings. 

In 1994, Brosnan met Smith, an American journalist, at a party in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. 

When Brosnan, 69, and Smith, 59, first got married, everyone was mesmerized by how absolutely stunning they were as a couple, as they were both incredibly attractive. After their first meeting in April 1994, they were later married in Ireland on Aug. 4, 2001. Together they have two sons: Dylan and Paris.

After Smith gave birth to their two children, she put on some extra weight, resulting in harsh criticism pouring in about her appearance. Maybe people were shocked to see that the former James Bond star had stayed with someone whose appearance had changed so much, but Brosnan and Smith’s love has proven time and again that it goes beyond the surface level.

The actor has been open about how his wife helped him overcome a challenging time in his life following the deaths of his first wife and daughter and allowed him to fully mourn and cope with the devastating losses in his life. “Keely has always been kind and compassionate and encouraged me to mourn Cassie,” Brosnan told The Sun in 2013. He added:

"I think of her all the time. I ­suppose Keely is my North Star, always looking out for me."

It has always been Smith’s personality and heart of gold that have been the reasons why Brosnan is so in love with his wife. 

During the “Black Adam” movie premiere in New York last Oct. 12, 2022, Brosnan once again showered his wife with much honor and adoration after revealing how he incorporated his marriage into his role as Doctor Fate in the movie.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of “Black Adam,” Smith was asked if she had known about her husband’s poignant tribute to her in the superhero film. 

Apparently, Brosnan wore his wedding ring and lucky watch throughout the movie, as his character, Doctor Fate. 

"This is our wedding ring, and this is a watch that Keely bought me many years ago with an inscription that (reads), 'Time flies on love's wings,' I decided to wear it for this character. It seemed appropriate," Brosnan told the outlet about his important decision. 

Brosnan plays the character of Doctor Fate, who is arguably the most powerful magic-wielding character in the DC Comic Book Universe. The cast also includes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the title character, and Noah Centineo, among many others. 

In elaborating on his decision to wear the ring and watch in the film, Brosnan likened himself to his character, which really spoke to him on a certain level. 

"The man (has) traversed the ages of time. He's one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC comic book world. He did have a wife called Enza, and she was even more powerful than him I hear," he said

To much surprise, Smith did not know about the tribute until only a few weeks before the actual premiere night. She also went on to reveal how much she appreciated the subtle but sweet gesture her husband made. 

"I love those emblems, that he took those with him into the superpower, superhero realm," Smith shared.
