The royals are known for their public engagements, charitable works and incredible sense of style. One thing that may sometimes be overlooked is their lives as normal mothers and fathers. The royal family is quite large. Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Phillip have four children together, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Most people are familiar with Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as their wives and children. However, there are many other members of the family, with several new additions in just the past couple of years.

Whether it is a hug or another gesture of love, it is so nice to see the happy moments between royal parents and their children. It is something that makes the royals seem accessible to us and shows their soft and gentle side. It is a reminder that even royal family members are just people and that they want to spend time with their families like anyone else.

With so much time spent in the public eye, there have been plenty of adorable captured moments between these family members, documenting just how much they’ve changed as time has gone on. Though they work to keep their lives private, there are plenty of special occasions when we get the chance to see the families interact. This is especially true for the royal parents as they debut their precious children to the world, typically sometime after just having been born or during public-facing events in other countries.

In today’s generation, many people know the British royal family starting with Queen Elizabeth. She was married to Philip until his death in April 2021, welcoming Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward along the way. Charles’ family is undoubtedly considered to be one of the core families in the overall royal line, as he welcomed sons William and Harry with the late Princess Diana during the early 1980s. He has been married to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, since 2005.

While most people remember the beautiful occasion that was Charles and Diana’s wedding in 1981, the Prince of Wales’ second wedding almost didn’t happen. According to Express, “Camilla was not well on the day of the wedding,” and had come down with an illness and a strong case of nerves. Thankfully, she pushed through and is now an essential part of the royal family.

William has gone on to start a family of his own after he married Kate Middleton in 2011 and had three children together: Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Charles is currently first in line to the throne, followed by the Duke of Cambridge, followed by all three of William’s children in their birth order.

However, being parents to little princes and a princess isn’t always easy. According to Yahoo News, William’s kids fight almost every morning about what song they want to listen to but have since implemented a turn-taking system.

Harry is also a father to a son named Archie and a daughter named Lilibet with his wife of four years, Meghan Markle. Despite being members of the royal family, Harry and his wife formally departed in early 2020, with most of their patronages and responsibilities being handed over the following year.

Meanwhile, the queen has three other children besides Charles who also have their own kids and even some grandchildren! Her only daughter, the Princess Royal, is a mother of two from her first marriage to Captain Mark Phillips. Their son Peter Phillips is the father of Savannah Phillips and Isla Phillips. According to PEOPLE, Peter is the eldest grandchild of the queen, and Savannah is the oldest great-grandchild, having been born in December 2010.

Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, is in line for the throne, following Peter and his two kids. Afterward, her three young ones – Mia, Lena and Lucas – are also in succession, although they are 22nd, 23rd and 24th in line, respectively.

The queen’s family has continued to grow over the years. However, not much has changed regarding her youngest child, Edward, and his family line. Edward has been married to Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, since 1999. Their daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, was born in November 2003, and their son, James, Viscount Severn, was born in December 2007.

And while Sophie and Edward have been married for over 20 years, Sophie’s engagement ring has always been a topic of conversation. According to the Court Jeweler, her ring is a central two-carat oval diamond with smaller heart-shaped stones surrounding the centerpiece, costing just over $124,000.

Another one of the queen’s children is Andrew, who permanently resigned from his public royal roles following controversy in 2020. His two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, also do not carry out royal duties. Beatrice is married to Italian noble Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, having tied the knot back in 2020. The pair welcomed their daughter Sienna in September 2021, making her the youngest great-grandchild of the queen.

Beatrice and her husband had known each other since early childhood, seamlessly falling into a romantic relationship later on. Mapelli Mozzi already had a son named Christopher Woolf with his ex-fiance Dara Huang, to whom Beatrice has become a doting stepmother. Beatrice's sister Eugenie is also a mom, as her son August was born back in February 2021.

However, these are not the only family members of the royal family, as the queen had a sister, Princess Margaret, the Countess of Snowdon. Although she passed away in 2002, her memory has lived on through her children: the Second Earl of Snowdon and Lady Sarah Chatto.

Although these family members may not be the first people royal fans think of, they are still incredibly important to the British royal line. Margaret was once second in line to the throne, following her older sister Elizabeth, however, her position diminished as the queen had children and grandchildren of her own. Nowadays, Sarah is 28th in the line of succession and her brother is a few steps ahead at 25th.

While this British family monarchy technically only rules the United Kingdom and its commonwealth, they have certainly made their way into ruling the hearts of people from all over the world.
