People Found A Fox With More Than 100 Stolen Shoes

The theft of hundreds of shoes in the Zehlendorf suburb of Berlin, Germany this summer stumped many residents. Numerous residents had awakened to find their shoes missing from their porches and had wondered what anyone would want with their Crocs and flip flops.

The thefts quietly continued until Christian Meyer discovered that his brand new, expensive running shoes were missing. Needless to say, he was quite upset. Frustrated, he posted about his missing shoes on a local message board. He was surprised to find that his shoes were not the only ones in his suburb to vanish without a trace. The culprit? A sly fox.

Fortunately, someone tipped off Meyer and let him know that they had seen a fox carrying shoes in its mouth in his neighborhood. This was his first clue that the thefts were possibly not being committed by a person. Meyer began to wonder if a small fox could be responsible for all of the missing shoes, so he kept an eye out until he saw the fox in question. When he found it, it had a pair of blue flip flops in its mouth, according to Smithsonian Magazine.

Meyer decided to follow the little thief back to its den. To his complete and utter amazement, the fox was a prolific thief and had absconded with 100 pairs of shoes, as Smithsonian Magazine details. The den was filled with the fox's collection of footwear. The shoes varied from flip flops and Crocs to trainers and running shoes. However, the Crocs seemed to be his favorite. It seems that this fox wasn't too picky about its footwear and just wanted to add to the impressive collection.

Foxes are well known for being loveable bandits. They have the ability to troubleshoot traps and gain access to food and other items of interest. They are amazing hunters and have a unique and cunning personality that makes them quite amusing and frustrating at the same time. It is not understood what the fox found so fascinating about shoes that he felt the need to collect them. However, that is exactly what he did. However, this particular fox is not alone in this behavior. As several videos found online show, many foxes seem to like shoes.

Unfortunately, only three pairs of shoes stolen by this particular fox have been claimed by their owners, and Christian Meyer's prized running shoes were not one of them, according to Smithsonian Magazine. He was unable to find his shoes in the fox's stash.

While he was able to solve one mystery in his neighborhood, he has yet to be able to solve the case of his own missing running shoes, and it is doubtful he ever will. Fortunately, he has a story to tell that was well worth his investigative time and effort.
