Paul Rudd Let His Son Think He Worked In A Movie Theater: 'I Never Corrected Him'

Feb 16, 2023 by apost team

Years before "Ant-Man" actor Paul Rudd became a Marvel superhero, he was a breakout star in the 1995 movie "Clueless" with Alicia Silverstone and then went on to star in a string of blockbuster movies like "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up." However, his son, Jack, as a little kid, thought that his father simply worked in a movie theater, and the actor never corrected him.

Rudd has been married to producer Julie Yaeger, a former publicist, since 2003. They met just as "Clueless" was ready to be released in theaters, and Yaeger was part of the PR firm that helped with the movie's promotion.

The Marvel superstar's long-term marriage to Yaeger was inspired by his own parents, who were married for a lifetime. As he told Elle in 2011, his relationship with his wife can't be tabloid fodder because they have such a normal marriage.

The couple shares a home in Greenwich Village and upstate New York with their two children. Aside from Jack, who was born in 2006, the couple has a daughter, Darby, born in 2010.

Rudd has quite a self-deprecating humor about being a dad. He said in a 2018 interview with Marie Claire that while he is the most outstanding guy for his daughter, his son, then 13 years old, would roll his eyes whenever the actor attempted to crack jokes. His teenager also does not want his dad to visit his school anymore.

Despite being a superhero on the big screen, the actor admitted that his most precious role is that of being a father and husband.

Rudd revealed in an interview with Willie Geist on Sunday Today that Jack was around 4 or 5 years old when he went to the movies with his friends, and they all saw a movie poster in the lobby with the actor's face on it. Unfortunately, the kids were not at all impressed.

"They all just thought that I worked at the movie theater," Rudd said, adding that he didn't even bother explaining to his children what he did for work. "I never corrected him," Rudd said. The actor believed that Jack eventually figured it out when he turned 15.

However, in 2015, Rudd was with his wife and kids when his star was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was already playing the lead in "Ant-Man," so his children likely have some idea that he's a pretty big deal in show business.

Rudd also told Absolute Radio that his son was a frequent visitor on the set of his Marvel movie. Jack was with his dad at the red carpet event when the first "Ant-Man" movie premiered in 2015.

"It's the first movie I've ever done that he's seen," Rudd said, adding, "I try to keep him away from all of this stuff."

The devoted dad, however, also said that he was proud to share this experience with Jack because it was the first time he had been to a Hollywood event.

Meanwhile, fans of the actor were thrilled to see that his son looks and sounds identical to him. The father and son were spotted at the Super Bowl LVII football field on Feb. 12, 2023, cheering for the Chiefs. They have a TikTok viral video where Jack thanked the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, for such a great win.
