Patrick Duffy may be known for playing several iconic roles on television, but the role he plays as a family man is even more amazing.

Patrick found widespread fame and success portraying the role of Bobby Ewing on the primetime soap opera “Dallas.” It’s a role that Patrick held near and dear to his heart as he portrayed the character from 1978 to 1985 and then from 1986 to 1991. He even reprised the role later on in a continuation of the series from 2012 to 2014.

Pursuing acting is something that Patrick had dreamed about as a child. He was born on March 17, 1949, in Townsend, Montana. During high school, he participated in the drama club and went on to obtain a degree in drama from the University of Washington. Patrick was later hired as an actor-in-residence.

Shortly after, Patrick landed his starring role on "Dallas." He found more fame on the sitcom "Step by Step," which also starred Suzanne Somers. Patrick portrayed the character of Frank Lambert from 1991 to 1998, successfully staying busy all the way from the late 1970s to the late 1990s. The actor later went on to be cast as Stephen Logan on the daytime soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful," which he was on from 2006 to 2011.

Patrick has had many reasons to celebrate in his life. He has been on a handful of successful television shows and has grown a great fan base. He has also stayed very busy, appearing in many TV movies over the years. In more recent years, Patrick has continued to act and has appeared in an episode of "NCIS" as well as the films "The Green Knight" and "Lady of the Manor."

However, Patrick was faced with tragedies over the years. Both of his parents were killed in November 1986, during an armed robbery.

“When my parents were murdered, I went through all the emotions of the horrific event — shock and anger and everything — but I never felt disconnected from (my parents),” he told Closer Weekly in an interview.

Patrick was faced with another horrible tragedy again on Jan. 23, 2017, when his wife, Carlyn Rosser, died of cancer. She was a professional ballerina who had danced with the First Chamber Dance Company of New York. They were together for 43 years and had two children.

Patrick took time to grieve Rosser's death. Speaking with Closer Weekly in 2019, he talked about how much he missed certain aspects of his life alongside his late wife.

“I still consider myself a married man,” he said.

The actor also explained how he didn’t expect Rosser's death, and it came as a surprise to him.

Thankfully, Patrick had many friends and family members – including his children – to help support him during such a tough time.

Years following Rosser's death, Patrick found a new reason to be happy and showed that he had left his heart open for love. In 2020, PEOPLE reported Patrick started dating Linda Purl of “Happy Days.”

But even if he found a new love, Patrick prioritized his children after his wife's death. He has two sons with Rosser, Padraic Duffy born the same year they tied the knot in 1974, and Conor Duffy, who came into their lives six years later in 1980.

Unlike his father, Padraic chose to pursue a career in the field of theater, working as a managing director for a theater company in Los Angeles. He is married to actress Emily Kosloski who appeared in TV shows such as "The Fosters," "Dallas" and "Weird City." Padraic and Kosloski have two children.

Conor, on the other hand, followed in his father's footsteps and made his TV debut in the show his father starred in, "Dallas." He also appeared in a number of TV shows including "Arrested Development," "Superstore," "The Mick" and "Good Girls." He is married to TV producer Emily Cutler, with whom he shares two kids.

When Conor announced that he would be serving as writer and director for a live reading of "Max & Willy’s Last Laugh" in 2019, Patrick took to social media to share how proud he was of his son.

“So proud of my son for this. I’m going both nights. Everyone should see and experience this,” Patrick said.

Patrick became even closer to his children after their mom’s death and bonded with them from time to time.

“His sons and their families are over all the time,” a source told Closer Weekly in April 2019. “He hates being alone, so they’re a wonderfully close family. He loves having them around.”

During his tour for "Catch Me If You Can," Patrick sat down with Time & Leisure where he talked about looking forward to going home to see his family.

“I look forward to going home because my family’s there, I have two sons who have married brilliant wonderful women. I have four grandchildren. This will be the longest I have ever been without being in their company. And I miss them terribly,” he said.
