Passenger’s Laptop Is Crushed On Flight After Person In Front Suddenly Reclined Their Seat

Flying can be challenging. You often feel rushed at the airport, and having to go through security can take longer than we’d like. Traveling by plane can become even more stressful when there is an argument or altercation during the flight. It seems these days there are more and more stories of drama and difficult situations starting on planes.
While some try to squeeze in some sleep during flights, many can't actually sit still and choose to work or use their tech while thousands of feet up in the air. For Film producer and podcaster Pat Cassidy, he thought working in the plane with his laptop might be a good idea until after the person in front of him, decided it was naptime.
In a post made on February 2020, Cassidy shared a heartbreaking photo on social media, showing how crushed his laptop’s screen was after an aggravating encounter mid-flight. Apparently, it was a flight from Austin, Texas, back to Los Angeles, California.
“Small note for the suggestion box,” he sarcastically posted and tagged Delta Airlines. “Maybe have a little warning sign or someway to prevent my laptop from being destroyed when the person in front of me reclines their seat.”
To make matters worse, Cassidy also blasted the airline because of an unabashed flight attendant.
"Also, this one is more of a critique than a suggestion. I really appreciate that your flight attendant came over to tell me that the passenger in front of me 'needs to be able to recline' and then asked him 'if he was okay?' as if your seat hadn't just ruined my livelihood,” he added at the time.
As expected, Cassidy’s post about his crushed laptop did the rounds on social media. The post has since garnered more than 5,000 likes and 700 reposts.
It also stirred debate about whether Cassidy was actually in the wrong for complaining about the said encounter, as he also revealed that he was only offered $75 in compensation for the broken laptop.
“I narrowly avoided this a few weeks ago. It’s interesting how the passenger infront is always in the right, even if they’re violently pushing their seat backwards,” a user shared.
“The problem with reclining seats on aeroplanes is in the design. Reclining made sense when the economy classes were roomy back in the day. That’s not the case today. Today short distance flights should either have limited recline, or the bottom of the seat should slide ahead,” someone echoed.
“Rapid 'crash mode' seat recliners are THE worst people,” a user said.
However, not everyone was on the same page in blasting the airlines for the mishap.
“This is negligence and lack of due precaution on the part of the airlines. Passengers with a reclining seat should be able to do so at will. The seats and trays should be designed for adequate damping to not pose a danger to passengers and property,” one posted.
“I have flown a lot and used laptops all the time with no issue at all when people recline. Maybe user placement had a bit to do with it? Millions have never had an issue and now he wants a free laptop…lmao,” another commented.
