Orphaned Fawn Finds Comfort Alongside ‘Mean’ Dog Who Scares Bears As A Job

Oct 13, 2020 by apost team

If humankind ever needed a lesson in humanity, all they'd have to do is take a page out of any animal's book. When he's not scaring off bears, Mishka, a Karelian bear dog who worked for Washington State's Department of Fish and Wildlife, can be seen befriending one of the unlikeliest of pals, a fawn.

Mishka definitely earns his kibbles and bits, as his main job was to ward off bears that may come too close to the compound, as The Dodo reports. While a bear can technically win in a fight against a dog, Mishka's bark, coupled with his bravado, is something that the bears try to avoid.

Tougher Than Leather, Softer Than Butter

Although technically Mishka is pretty much all bark and no bite, as merely barking at the bears gets the job done, he is not as tough as his exterior suggests. One day Mishka's owner, Officer Richard, received a call about an orphaned fawn. When he placed the fawn inside of the vehicle with Mishka, almost immediately the K-9 became protective of it.

We're All The Same Inside

Although Mishka and the fawn were from totally different species as well as walks of life, Mishka instinctively provided the comfort that the little one needed. With it's mother gone and it being in an entirely new environment, the fawn gravitated towards Mishka who quickly reciprocated. All of the pup's bravado went out of the window as he became friendly and loving towards his new little buddy.

Maternal Instinct Isn't Just for Mothers

It's almost as if Mishka understood that the little fawn was in fact an orphan and stepped in to fill the void. Going above and beyond the expectations of a mere friendship, the "bear dog" was even spotted licking and taking care of the little fawn. Whether this was a part of some grooming ritual or a mere show of affection, the two have built a bond from the start.

When it is all said and done, love and compassion have no sense of difference. There have been thousands of videos online of dogs being friendly with cats, and now this. Who's to say if the key element is due to the fawn being so young, Mishka sensing the youth's distress, or something else. What is definitely for certain in this case is that love surely conquered all.
