Domestic violence situations can spiral into fatal incidents. In San Jose, CA, police officers rushed to an apartment complex after neighbors heard a woman screaming. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a horrible situation.

A young woman suffered stab wounds inflicted by her boyfriend. Officers also found that the boyfriend left the scene with the couple's two-year old daughter, reports KSBY News.

Law enforcement immediately issued an amber alert along with a warning. The alert strongly cautioned the public to avoid approaching 24-year-old Victor Magana. The description "armed and dangerous" was applied.

Amber alerts cast a net that asks the public to be on the lookout for missing children. The odds of someone hearing the amber alert coming across a missing kid are low, but slim odds are better than none at all. In this case, a husband and wife tourist duo beat the odds. They paid attention to the amber alert and remained alert to their surroundings.

Upon pulling up at a gas station, the couple was in for a shock. They recognized the vehicle described in the amber alert. Incredibly, this occurred after the husband, named Al, joked that he would "catch this guy." Al saw the vehicle minutes later.

Even if they had not noticed him, the police probably would have come to the scene due to the man's conduct. He used the bathroom at the gas station, but left his keys inside the car with the toddler. To get into the car, he took a rock and tried to smash the vehicle's window Al told KSBY News. His actions drew the attention of many people at the gas station.

A smartphone video captured what then ensued. A group of people confronted the boyfriend as he tried to smash the window. Al, realizing who this man was, drove his car behind the suspect's vehicle to block any departures. Al also called the police, who arrived immediately. The man was then taken into custody.

The little girl ended up rescued. There's a lesson here: take amber alerts seriously and pay attention to them. You never know when you could save someone.
