Founded in 1925, Howard Johnson’s was one of the most famous restaurant chains in the 1970's with sales surpassing those of McDonald's. Sadly, the popular restaurant saw a decline in business over time and slowly faded out. Now, Howard Johnson’s is making a comeback in Lake George, New York, where John LaRock has reopened one of the original restaurants.

John LaRock is no stranger to the restaurant; in fact, thirty years ago, he was working in Howard Johnson’s as a dishwasher. His passion and belief in the restaurant fueled his desire to reopen it.

After spending over $200,000 on the building, LaRock now invites people to come in and relive the past in the comfort of the familiar sit-down restaurant. With the original menu items, customers can order ice cream, pancakes, liver and onions, and root beer floats. Stepping into the restaurant is like taking a step back in time as LaRock has carefully preserved the unique aura with traditional tables, the same roof, and the old-fashioned dining room layout.

Customers are certainly overjoyed with the chance to return to their favorite hang-out. Business is thriving and LaRock believes that Howard Johnson’s is certainly not a thing of the past!
