No One Is As Excited For Couple’s New Pup As Their Ten-Year-Old Neighbor

The bond between man and dog is a powerful story that has been told for centuries. However, it always seems as if this bond is even more powerful when children are involved. Maybe it simply that children are more susceptible to the irresistible cuteness of a puppy, or maybe it's a similar method of unbridled curiosity that children and dogs explore the world with. In either case, the affection that a child has for a dog can be incredibly endearing.

Troy is a 10-year-old from Illinois who has taken it upon himself to seek out the companionship of a neighbor's dog. Love knows no boundaries, not even a fence, and this story from May 2020 will be sure to warm your heart.

Dog adoptions and foster requests spiked recently due to the coronavirus pandemic. The warmth, happiness, and companionship that a dog offers was an irresistible temptation for a population faced with being at home alone for months at a time.

Shelters were quickly emptied, and a hoard of pups found their fur-ever homes. One such couple that took the plunge during these times were from Illinois. They adopted an adorable Golden Retriever from the local shelter and christened him "Arthur the Golden Boy." He's a painfully cute pup who loves nothing more than playing with his humans and getting into pup-sized trouble.

The cuteness of this puppy was not lost in the neighborhood. During his frequent walks, Arthur became super popular around the neighborhood. Everyone loved to see Arthur the happy little dog scurrying along the sidewalk. One such fan was the couple's neighbor, Troy.

At ten years old, Troy had never had a dog of his own. He immediately took an interest in Arthur and rather than sit idly by and watch Arthur, Troy took matters into his own hands. Even if he couldn't have a dog of his own, he wanted his share of pup-time. Troy sent a letter to Arthur's owners, and the photo of that letter quickly went viral.

The letter, written in classic ten-year-old style using crayon with questionable spelling and penmanship, makes a simple request. Troy asked whether he could be the designated dog-sitter and walker once the virus restrictions are lifted.

"Hello neighbors", Troy wrote, "My name is Troy. I'm the (sic) 4th grade and I'm just wondering if I could maybe after this virus if you need a dog sitter I can walk your dog and more." The grammar may be lacking, but the message was clear.

Arthur has his own Instagram account and decided to respond to the letter personally. Along with the photo, Arthur writes, "I made friends with small hooman today. He's like basically a me-size. I bet he will give more treats than my own hoomans. I will try."

Knowing that love knows no bounds, Arthur has already been able to visit Troy using careful measures to be safe from COVID. The initial playdate went wonderfully. Arthur once again jetted to Instagram to give an update, saying "Pupdate! Me and smol neighbor had a great (distanced) playdate today! He's so smol, so no pics for privacies. He showed me dance moves and told me about his other dog frens! We will be best buds."

The heartwarming story quickly went viral on Instagram, with the post being shared thousands of times. Supportive comments flowed in, and Arthur now has over 40,000 followers!
