Nicole Kidman Says She Loves Children And Would’ve Liked ‘Two Or Three More’

Nicole Kidman is an American-born Australian actress who has received many accolades throughout her inspiring career. She has received 6 Golden Globe awards, two Primetime Emmys and an Academy Award from five nominations. In 2006, 2018 and 2019 Kidman was the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. In 2020, Kidman was deemed one of the top five greatest actors of the 21st Century by The New York Times.

She began her career in 1983 and is best known for her roles in the films "Eyes Wide Shut," "The Hours" — which earned her the Academy Award — and "Moulin Rouge!" She is also an accomplished television star, with her most successful role being in "Big Little Lies." The series earned her two Emmy awards, one for acting and another for being an executive producer. 

Kidman has been married to country singer Keith Urban since 2006. Urban released his debut album in 1991. He moved to the United States the following year and found work as a session guitarist for the band The Ranch. He later signed to Capitol Records and released his first self-titled American album in 1999. The album would go on to be certified platinum in the US and produce Urban's first No. 1 song on the Billboard Country charts. 

The couple met at G'Day LA, an event to honor Australians living in Los Angeles. Their relationship began a few years after Kidman finalized her divorce from her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. Kidman and Urban were married in Sydney, Australia, in 2006. Despite the couple being together for over 15 years, they are still as madly in love as when they first met. However, Kidman has expressed that there may be one thing keeping her life with Urban from being 100 percent perfect — she wishes she could have had more children.

Kidman and Urban’s love story has been one for the books. The pair constantly sing each other’s praises to the press. In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2013, Kidman said they met at the perfect time. "I would probably say that two very lonely people managed to meet at a time when they could open themselves to each other."

She shared with People in 2019 the exact moment she knew she wanted to marry Urban.

“It was my (38th) birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5 a.m. on my stoop in New York. That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.’” 

Kidman continued:

“It was pretty intense. I believed by that point he was the love of my life. Maybe that’s because I am deeply romantic, or I’m an actress, or I have strong faith as well, but I just believed, ‘Oh, okay, here he is.’” 

Now happily married for 16 years, the couple is incredibly supportive of each other. In September 2021, Urban said to Entertainment Tonight that Kidman’s influence in his life had been, "Life-changing, life-changing, absolutely."

The couple has two children together. Kidman carried their first daughter, Sunday Rose, to delivery in 2008, while their second child, Faith, was born via surrogacy in 2010. Previously, while married to Cruise, Kidman had suffered an ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage and was told it would be difficult for her to get pregnant in the future. In 2018, she shared her feelings about the losses to Tatler, where she said: “There's an enormous amount of pain and an enormous amount of joy on the other side of it. The flip side of going through so much yearning and pain to get there is the feeling of 'Ahhhh!' when you have the child.”

With such deep love between them, what more could Kidman possibly ask for? Apparently, she told the BBC there is one thing that she would change if she could, and it’s just as heartwarming as you’re probably thinking.

“I wish I’d had more children. My husband says, ‘that is the wanting mind, Nicole, shut it down,’” she said. 

When asked how many more children she would’ve wanted, Kidman responded: “I would have liked probably two or three more children. I love, love children.” She explained that she loved raising children as they make her “feel good.”

“I love watching them grow and the things they say and teach,” she continued, adding that she doesn’t consider not having more children a regret. “I hate to use the word regret because I have no regrets. I’m so blessed. But would I enjoy giving to more young people? Yes.”

Back in August 2021, she had also told Marie Claire she “would’ve loved 10 kids,” and added: “But that’s OK because I get to mother other children. I have six nieces and nephew and I’m godmother to 12. I love mothering, I love kids: they’re quirky, funny and unfiltered. And then you get to see them grow and send them on their way.” 

However, she also told Women’s Weekly in December 2021, she was more than grateful for what she already had.

“Would I have loved to have had more kids? Sure. I love kids. I've got a lot of nieces and nephews. I have a lot of godchildren. I'm happy to put some of that maternal energy into other people. I don't need to (adopt more),” she told the publication.
