Love is a beautiful thing, and as humans, we all crave the affection, friendship, passion, and selflessness that come with it. To satisfy this craving, humans look to find love in any place they find themselves. These days, there are several ways in which people meet their partners, and with the advent of technology, it has become easier to meet people of similar interests.
Regardless of the fact that technology has made dating easier, a BBC report revealed that people still prefer the real-life method of dating. Of the real-life methods of dating, meeting your romantic partner at work is one of the most popular. According to a 2013 publication by the Daily News, 22% of married couples in the U.S. met at work.
Although workplace romance is frowned upon because it could lead to complacency among one or both partners, a 2021 survey by Insurance Quotes revealed that people who engage in workplace romance are 10% more likely to feel productive at work, ultimately improving the quality of their work.
In one such case, reporter Riley Nagel and anchor Cornelia Nicholson, who are staff at NBC affiliate WRCB in Chattanooga, Tennessee, met in Montana and started their relationship almost four years ago when they worked at a different media outlet. The pair worked together and flourished, moved to another network, and have continued to excel together. To cap it all, Nagel credited Nicholson as being the main reason for his remaining in the news, as she pushed him to be a better version of himself.
On Aug. 20, 2023, Nicholson posted a proposal clip online of her workplace romance, which has now reached new heights after Nagel popped the big question in a surprise proposal.

In August 2023, Nicholson was at work recording a segment for a promotional video behind the anchor desk when she unknowingly announced her proposal.
“Coming up right now we have the story of two young journalists who just so happened to find love in the same industry,” Nicholson read, and recognized what was about to happen.
"Local 3's Riley Nagel joins us in studio with a special report?" she continued with a questioning look.
Nagel strutted into the newsroom carrying a bouquet of flowers, and Nicholson immediately understood what was happening.
"That's right, Cornelia, I do have a very special report," Nagel said.
“You have such an amazing personality,” he continued. “You’re so bright, and you always light up a room when you come in, and make everyone laugh.”
Since they had met in news, it only seemed fitting they make a commitment in news. With a ring in hand, he went on to talk about how they met and the impact she had on his career and other aspects of his life. Nagel ended his speech on a bent knee and asked Nicholson to marry him.
"Cornelia Nicholson ... would you marry me?" he asked.
While fighting back tears, Nicholson gave her long-term boyfriend a positive response while holding out her hands so he could place the ring on her finger. The pair sealed their engagement with a warm hug and a kiss.
“FIANCÉ: The love of my life proposed to me on tv 😭 I’m still in shock! This was the most perfect day. Thank you to all my friends/coworkers who helped hide this from me and make it happen! 💖💖,” Nicolson wrote in the caption.
Nicholson’s post has since gone viral with thousands of views and hundreds of comments congratulating the couple on their engagement.
